{"id":3247,"date":"2011-10-15T11:14:51","date_gmt":"2011-10-15T11:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=3247"},"modified":"2011-10-15T12:09:01","modified_gmt":"2011-10-15T12:09:01","slug":"welsh-government-panel-reviews-planning-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=3247","title":{"rendered":"Welsh Government: panel reviews planning reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_2_0_1_1318667388683386\"><strong id=\"yui_3_2_0_1_1318667388683380\"><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A major review of how planning services in Wales should be delivered in the future has been announced by Welsh Environment and Sustainable Development Minister John Griffiths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The review will be conducted by an independent advisory group under the chairmanship of John Davies, former Welsh director of the Planning Inspectorate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An announcement on the other members of the group will be made shortly and a call for evidence will be issued this month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The review will identify the key policy objectives that the planning system should be required to deliver now and in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It will look at existing institutional delivery arrangements, noting areas of good practice and areas in need of improvement; and propose options for the future delivery of the planning system, including plan making and development management services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s recommendations will form part of the evidence base for the Welsh Government\u2019s proposed new planning bill which will follow publication of a planning White Paper during 2013 which will inform legislation due to be introduced into the Assembly at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The independent advisory group will deliver its report by June 2012 and make recommendations about:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0 options for future delivery of the planning system, including a preferred approach<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0 the primary and secondary legislation and policy and guidance necessary to introduce the identified options and preferred approach<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0 an assessment, on an all Wales basis, of the resources necessary, in terms of staff numbers and costs, to deliver the identified options and preferred approach.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The delivery arrangements for the Welsh planning system have remained largely unaltered since 1947.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Welsh Government News<\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/wales.gov.uk\/newsroom\/planning\/2011\/111003advisorygroup\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">LINK <\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Search Planning Portal<\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planningportal.gov.uk\/general\/news\/stories\/2011\/oct11\/061011\/061011_6\" target=\"_blank\">LINK <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A major review of how planning services in Wales should be delivered in the future has been announced by Welsh Environment and Sustainable Development Minister John Griffiths. &nbsp;
