{"id":32455,"date":"2022-02-08T18:16:46","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T18:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32455"},"modified":"2022-02-08T18:16:46","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T18:16:46","slug":"ihbc-features-heritage-from-the-council-doorstep-recording-memories-of-hexham-for-future-generations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32455","title":{"rendered":"IHBC features \u2018Heritage from the (council) doorstep\u2019: Recording memories of Hexham for future generations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-32456\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Northerumberland_Council_080222-285x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"192\" \/>A unique project aims to capture local residents&#8217; memories of Hexham on video which will be made available for others to view and held too for future generations.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u00a0[Hexham HAZ] \u2026has commissioned a professional Video Production company to create a series of short videos of local residents\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Northumberland County Council writes:<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">A shout out is being made to local peopl<\/span>e\u00a0to come forward with their own personal memories of the town and the people who once lived in it.<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">As w<\/span>e are\u00a0approaching\u00a0the Queen&#8217;s 70th Jubilee\u00a0it would be great to\u00a0find out people\u2019s\u00a0memories of Hexham at the time of her Silver Jubilee in 1977.<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">1977\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0also\u00a0the year Star Wars was\u00a0released\u00a0and Elvis Presley died. The Queen&#8217;s Hall was home to Bailey&#8217;s Bingo\u00a0Club\u00a0and you could buy a car from Fewster&#8217;s Garage on\u00a0Priestpopple.<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">Would you be willing to share your memories of Hexham from the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s? What was it like to go to school in Hexham in the days before mobile phones and computers? Did you shop or work on the high street? Where did you go for a night out?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">The Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone has commissioned a professional Video Production company to create a series of short videos of\u00a0<\/span>local residents\u00a0sharing their memories of the town which will be made available via the County and Town Council websites and held for posterity by the Northumberland Archives.<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">The videos will be shot in Hexham Abbey in late January\/early February next year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">County Councillor Trevor\u00a0<\/span>Cessford\u00a0has already volunteered to be an interviewee and encourages others with\u00a0stories\u00a0to tell,\u00a0to join him.<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">Councillor <\/span>Cessford\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cI was born and bred in Hexham and have great memories of growing up and working in the town, from my days as a paper boy at Denton&#8217;s newsagents on Battle Hill and a\u00a0<\/span>butcher\u2019s\u00a0boy at Hedley&#8217;s on Market Street, to working for the TSB at the Cattle Market. However, everyone&#8217;s memories will be\u00a0different,\u00a0and it will be invaluable to create a record of this variety of memories to be held in the archives and to be available to future generations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThis is going to be a great project for the town<\/span>\u00a0and will\u00a0really\u00a0help\u00a0preserve the stories that local people\u00a0have about it.
