And in between lie some of the world\u2019s most ancient cultural sites and precious natural wonders.<\/p>\n<h6><em>image:\u00a0By Francesco Bandarin &#8211; This place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed asTimbuktu., CC BY-SA 3.0 igo, https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=45806811<\/em><\/h6>\n<p>However, despite its vast size, sub-Saharan Africa has never been proportionately represented on Unesco\u2019s world heritage list, its 98 sites dwarfed by Europe, North America and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the first African to be made head of the world heritage centre has said that needs to change \u2013 and fast.
