This year’s\u00a0AJ Small Projects Award<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the search to find the UK’s best project costing under \u00a3299,000 \u2013 has opened for entries<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

AJ Small Projects<\/a>\u00a0launched last month (30 November) at an event held at the studio of Piercy & Company in Camden, London, which included a video presentation by last year’s AJ Small Project winner Rashid Ali.<\/p>\n

His winning scheme, a\u00a030m\u00b2 Common Room<\/a>\u00a0for the Town Hall in Hargeisa, Somaliland, was described by judges earlier this year as \u2018a small scheme with a big impact\u2019 \u2013 it cost just \u00a39,500. Ali talked about his experience of the award and the value of small projects in practice saying: \u2018Small projects are a great opportunity to experiment with ideas \u2013 which are multi-scalar \u2013 as well as with details and materials.\u2019<\/p>\n

Now in its 27th year, the annual\u00a0AJ Small Projects Award<\/a>, run again in association with\u00a0Marley<\/a>, celebrates completed projects with a contract value of \u00a3299,000 and under.<\/p>\n

Since it was first launched in 1996, its intention has remained the same: to give much-deserved recognition to schemes with a more modest budget. From home extensions to workspaces, restaurants to shop fit-outs, pavilions to small houses, architects all over the country are busy working on projects that may not make the headlines but provide a real indication of the depth of design talent across the UK today.<\/p>\n

All projects entered into the awards are featured on the\u00a0AJ Buildings Library<\/a>\u00a0with the 20 shortlisted projects published in the AJ in March 2022 and on being display in an accompanying exhibition.<\/p>\n

The deadline is 21 January 2022.<\/p>\n
