{"id":32067,"date":"2021-12-17T18:48:24","date_gmt":"2021-12-17T18:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32067"},"modified":"2021-12-17T18:48:24","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T18:48:24","slug":"ihbc-looks-to-the-future-with-new-affiliate-arrangements-improved-support-for-all-and-only-the-name-changes-for-those-seeking-status-quo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32067","title":{"rendered":"IHBC looks to the future with new \u2018Affiliate\u2019 arrangements: Improved support for all, and ONLY the name changes for those seeking status quo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-27271\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IHBC-logo-no-words-purple-MASTER-300x113.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"113\" \/>IHBC Board\u2019s call to upgrade the Affiliate category to recognise those with an &#8216;awareness&#8217; of conservation means that from April 2022 anyone not securing or applying for assessment as an Affiliate will join a new \u2018supporter\u2019-style category, but see no other change to their status, benefits, fees or opportunities to learn from and contribute to the IHBC.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 being an \u2018Affiliate\u2019 will actually mean something, and for those not seeking that recognition, nothing changes but the name!\u2019\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>IHBC Chair David McDonald said: \u2018Trustees have long maintained concerns about the diverse and often blurred status of our Affiliates.\u00a0 We have now introduced a light-touch opportunity for any Affiliates keen to register formally their \u2018awareness\u2019 of conservation and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/join\/applicant_guidance\/index.html\">Competences and Areas of Competence<\/a> that underpin those practice standards agreed in our <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/business\/docs\/MASTER%20Articles%20of%20Association%20adopted%20at%20GM%20on%2026%20March%202021.pdf\">Corporate Plan<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The new arrangements are offer accessible support for early career and student members, so it is right that it should be a challenge for those applicants.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026NOT about accreditation, but about confirming a base-line awareness of how conservation works\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018For long-standing practitioners who want to remain as Affiliates, the forms can be easily and quickly filled with a little thought on our standards and processes and some selective and sensible adaptation from your own CV and practice work.\u00a0 If that seems too much trouble, then you may be reading more into this process than you should, as this is decidedly NOT about accreditation, but about confirming a base-line awareness of how conservation works.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That said, this new arrangement is a useful step in the direction of accreditation, as well as encouragement for anyone interested.\u00a0 While from next April, being an \u2018Affiliate\u2019 will actually mean something, and for those not seeking that recognition, nothing changes but the name!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I appreciate that for some long-term Affiliates this may seem an unexpected change to their membership status, but we believe it to be a necessary adjustment to maintain the IHBC\u2019s professional reputation.
