The long awaited International Co-Sponsored Meeting on Culture, Heritage and Climate Change<\/a> (ICSM CHC) will soon be here!\u00a0 This groundbreaking meeting will be of interest to anyone concerned about the better incorporation of culture and heritage into climate science and research.<\/p>\n

Over 100 scientist, policymakers, practitioners and traditional knowledge holders<\/a> will spend next week in a series of ICSM CHC sessions helping to develop and review the state of knowledge regarding connections of culture, heritage and climate change. A key goal of of the ICSM CHC is to support future culture-based research, climate science, and climate action.<\/p>\n

The ICSM CHC is jointly sponsored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)<\/a>, UNESCO<\/a>, and ICOMOS<\/a>. The ICSM CHC marks the first time that an IPCC Co-Sponsored meeting will specifically address culture and heritage.<\/p>\n

The Co-Sponsored Meeting will include a public launch event and three public panel discussions during the week of 6 December. More details and registration information is included below\u2026<\/p>\n

The Climate Heritage Network believes that culture and heritage need to be better reflected in climate science in general and in the work of the IPCC in particular. At the same time, cultural researchers and actors must align their work more closely with the needs of climate science. The Co-Sponsored Meeting will produce a final report that could be a road map to achieving these aims.\u00a0 Tune in next week and learn how you can be a part of these critical efforts.<\/p>\n

ICSM CHC writes:<\/p>\n

The ICSM CHC will bring together 100 researchers and practitioners from around the world in a virtual Meeting during the week of 6 December 2021. The report of the ICSM CHC will be provided to the IPCC and may serve as a resource in the scoping of the products for the IPCC seventh assessment cycle in 2022.<\/p>\n

The International Co-Sponsored Meeting on Culture, Heritage and Climate Change will include a public launch event and three public panel discussions that align with the Meeting’s key scientific questions: knowledge systems, climate impacts, and climate solutions. These events will be streamed live online at the times listed below.<\/p>\n

Our Mission<\/h2>\n

Culture and heritage connect the present to centuries and millennia of human experience.<\/p>\n

Currently, climate change represents one of the greatest threats to culture and heritage, from the physical damage of increasing temperatures, fires, floods, and droughts to the stresses these forces place on practice and transmission of lifeways and ways of knowing.<\/p>\n

At the same time, culture and heritage are essential resources for climate change science, adaptation, and mitigation \u2013 from\u00a0 traditional land and water management practices and architecture to physical and psychological refuges for communities during and after climate-related emergencies. Together culture and heritage are sources of creativity for solutions to climate challenges.<\/p>\n

On these bases, the International Co-Sponsored Meeting on Culture, Heritage, and Climate Change (ICSM CHC) is being prepared to:<\/p>\n
