{"id":31933,"date":"2021-12-03T17:21:53","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T17:21:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=31933"},"modified":"2021-12-03T17:22:11","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T17:22:11","slug":"ihbc-features-heritage-form-the-restorers-doorstep-faithful-reinstatement-preferred-option-for-gsa-mackintosh-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=31933","title":{"rendered":"IHBC features \u2018Heritage form the restorer\u2019s doorstep\u2019! \u2018Faithful reinstatement\u2019 preferred option for GSA Mackintosh Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7725\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/GSA-Image-2.jpg\" alt=\"Glasgow School of Art Fire\" width=\"177\" height=\"215\" \/>A detailed analysis of future options for the fire-hit Mackintosh Building at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) has concluded that a faithful reinstatement within the practical constraints of the regulatory environment is the preferred option, reports <em>Scottish Construction Now<\/em>.<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: for illustration purposes only<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 rigorous analysis of the options in line with the HM Treasury Green Book guidance and Scottish Public Investment Manual\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>Scottish Construction Now<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>Much of the world-renowned building, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh,\u00a0was extensively damaged when a fire broke out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/article\/mackintosh-building-restoration-contractors-devastated-following-fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in June 2018<\/a>\u00a0as it neared the end of a \u00a335 million restoration by Kier following a previous fire that destroyed the west wing in\u00a0May 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioned by the GSA from a\u00a0hub West-led team of\u00a0external consultants including\u00a0Avison Young, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.ac.uk\/about-gsa\/key-information\/the-mackintosh-building\/strategic-outline-business-case\/sobc-in-summary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) for\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.ac.uk\/about-gsa\/key-information\/the-mackintosh-building\/strategic-outline-business-case\/sobc-in-summary\/\">the Mackintosh Project<\/a> included a rigorous analysis of the options in line with the HM Treasury Green Book guidance and Scottish Public Investment Manual, and involved detailed engagement with stakeholders&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>The long list of options ranged from do minimum, a new build on the site or elsewhere on the GSA campus to faithful reinstatement, hybrid, and a building elsewhere in the city&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>GSA said the preferred option addresses the key success factors in each of the areas of the business case and will benefit the nation, students, the community, academia and the economy by delivering the GSA\u2019s academic objectives;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhancing the student experience &#8230;.<\/li>\n<li>Creating a landmark sustainable building&#8230;.<\/li>\n<li>Building community wealth, for example, by developing new apprenticeships in traditional and heritage crafts;<\/li>\n<li>Growing the GSA\u2019s special contribution&#8230;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The preferred option will now be further considered with building work planned to start between 2022 and 2027.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/articles\/faithful-reinstatement-preferred-option-for-mackintosh-building\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more&#8230;.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A detailed analysis of future options for the fire-hit Mackintosh Building at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) has concluded that a faithful reinstatement within the practical constraints of the regulatory environment is the preferred option, reports Scottish Construction Now. &hellip;
