That amount of water would flood nearly every coastal city around the world.<\/p>\n<p>With 94,000 miles of shoreline in\u00a0<a title=\"Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/greekreporter.com\/greece\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\">Greece<\/a>, 60 percent on the mainland, and 40 percent on the islands,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekreporter.com\/2021\/10\/12\/climate-change-projection-shows-piraeus-thessaloniki-under-water\/?swcfpc=1\">most of the country could be underwater<\/a>\u00a0with its residents also becoming climate refugees.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Greece Could also Produce Climate Refugees<\/h2>\n<p>Climate change models created by Climate Central, an independent organization of top scientists and journalists, show the devastation that rising sea levels could cause on coastal cities, including those in\u00a0<a title=\"Greece\" href=\"https:\/\/greekreporter.com\/greece\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\">Greece<\/a>, such as Piraeus and Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n<p>The models were created based on the findings of a peer-reviewed research paper written by scientists from Climate Central in collaboration with researchers from Princeton University and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany&#8230;.<\/p>\n<h2>COP Needs to Take Action<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWhatever happens at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COP26,<\/a> the sea level will continue to rise around the UK, that\u2019s something we absolutely need to prepare for,\u201d Dawson stated. \u201cWe have to be realistic. We can\u2019t afford to protect everywhere. The challenge for government is that the problem is not being confronted with the urgency or openness that we need.\u201d&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 2014 announcement on not being able to sustain the Welsh village, house prices in Fairbourne have nosedived.
