{"id":3162,"date":"2011-09-17T16:30:27","date_gmt":"2011-09-17T16:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=3162"},"modified":"2011-09-27T16:48:58","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T16:48:58","slug":"cla-highlights-england%e2%80%99s-conservation-losses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=3162","title":{"rendered":"CLA highlights England\u2019s conservation losses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has said continued cuts to the number of conservation officers, highlighted in the<em> Report on Local Authority Staff Resources <\/em><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">proves its case for fundamental reform of the heritage system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CLA Deputy President Harry Cotterell said: \u2018Local authorities control what can be done to heritage. If they don&#8217;t have skilled staff, it makes it difficult and often impossible to get consent for the changes needed if heritage is to be viable. This is disastrous for owners and for the long-term future of heritage itself.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The first survey of staff resources in 2003 showed just how few skilled personnel local authorities have working in heritage.
