IHBC Director Sean O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018Our recent \u2018<\/em>Jobs etc<\/em><\/a>\u2019 <\/em>service posts <\/em>capture an exceptionally wide spectrum of roles, all also encompassed in the skills sets represented in the<\/em> IHBC Areas of Competence<\/em><\/a> and the Conservation Cycle<\/a>. \u00a0These areas are detailed in our MATE<\/a> application support sessions and guidance, and in the model we use to assess interdisciplinary competence in line with international conservation practice standards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Especially interesting in this round is one particular mainstream historic discipline architecture, as both Arup and Philip Hughes Assoc seek Conservation Architects.<\/p>\n

Complementing that focus on traditional disciplines are the very contemporary, climate-focussed themes and activities, Historic England\u2019s \u2018Net Zero for Buildings\u2019 Project Manager \u2013 an interesting balance to the Listing Officer (Career bridging) role – and Westminster\u2019s Senior & Assistant \u2018Design, Conservation and Sustainability Officers\u2019.<\/p>\n

Following on from such trends, West Northamptonshire\u2018s \u2018Team Leader \u2013 Built and Natural Heritage\u2019 will focus on what might be called \u2018pan-environmental\u2019 conservation-based advisory and management skills!<\/p>\n

More familiar roles, with the broader skills sets that range right across our Competences, are also well represented.\u00a0 Conservation Officers are called for in Pembrokeshire, Ashford (Senior), Derby, Monmouthshire, Bath & North East Somerset and the Peak District National Park, the last with an suitably rural purview of course.\u00a0 In contrast, Glasgow\u2018s Project Officer (Fixed Term), offers a more proactive and urban agenda.<\/p>\n

Large employers with strong and charitably-focussed built environment conservation priorities tend to require a more diverse spread of skills sets across its conservation staff.\u00a0 These include the call from Scottish charity, Historic Environment Scotland for an Historic Buildings Adviser, and the Heritage Officer role advertised at the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.\u00a0 The National Trust\u2019s search for a Project Manager also fall into this category, as does the Canal & River Trust\u2019s various posts for Heritage Advisors.<\/p>\n

Importantly too, after years of advocacy even smaller charitable interests\u00a0 today are recognising the importance and good value of the IHBC \u2018<\/em>Jobs etc<\/em><\/a>\u2019 <\/em>service<\/em> in protecting their interests and those of their trustees even when not specific to conservation advice.\u00a0 So we see Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust looking for an Outreach and Promotion Officer and Fife Historic Buildings Trust advertising for a Project Officer.<\/p>\n

At the same time, while the Diocese of Sheffield\u2019s call for three Church Buildings Officer recognises the need for IHBC-mapped conservation skills, it is only in more recent decades that such specific terms have been prioritised in these kinds of appointments. The call from the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) for a Regeneration Officer of course introduces a whole new skills dimension in ecclesiastical conservation skills!<\/p>\n

Private sector list for more general advisory skills is smaller this round, with Stephen Levrant Heritage looking for an \u2018Experienced Senior Heritage\/Conservation Consultant\u2019 and Worlledge Associates for a Heritage Professional.\u00a0 Place Services is also calling for an \u2018Assistant Built Heritage Consultant\u2019, a welcome opportunity especially for early career development and support.<\/p>\n
