The Gannochy Trust\u2019s intergenerational neighbourhood in Perth designed by Glasgow architecture firm Anderson Bell + Christie, has picked up two awards and a commendation at the Scottish Design Awards on Thursday evening. The awards were in the Residential Multi-Unit and Affordable Housing categories and the commendation was for Landscaping \/ Public Realm.<\/p>\n
The panel of judges expressed their admiration for the development\u2019s clear and bold design concepts, and the bringing together of ideas to deliver a sense of community and ownership, and a place where people wanted to live. The development\u2019s extensive community consultation as part of the design process was also highlighted, as well as core design features including the development\u2019s flexibility to accommodate \u2018intergenerational living\u2019, linkages between internal and external spaces and to the landscape, use of sustainable building techniques and architecture than improves health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n
The new 48 house development integrates seamlessly with the original housing estate built by Gannochy Trust founder and former Scotch whisky entrepreneur and philanthropist, Arthur Kinmond (A.K.) Bell in the 1920\u2019s. Not only is the new neighbourhood well integrated in terms of building proportions, scale and layout, but careful consideration of the existing tenant community means the new housing will accommodate their future needs as they age, and will also attract younger families and accommodate carers to create an inclusive and resilient community.<\/p>\n
The new development is underpinned by three core design principles, inspired by A.K. Bell; \u2018Healthy Homes for Life,\u2019 \u2018Lifetime Neighbourhoods\u2019 and \u2018High Quality Design,\u2019 which aim to improve health, accessibility and connectedness for tenants, with the flexibility to adapt to their needs as circumstances change. These guiding principles will help the Trust provide rented accommodation to a wide range of people, from small families to single people of all ages, including those who need additional support to live in their own home.<\/p>\n
The Gannochy Trust Lifetime Neighbourhood was built by Campion Homes and designed by Glasgow architectural firm Anderson Bell + Christie. \u2018Healthy Homes for Life,\u2019 and \u2018High Quality Design\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 elements also received design input from the Mackintosh Environmental Architecture Research Unit at Glasgow School of Art with support from the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre.<\/p>\n
Stephen Lamb, Director of Anderson Bell Christie said: \u201cWe are delighted to receive the Scottish Design Awards for Residential Multi-Unit and Affordable Housing, and a commendation for Public Realm \/ Landscaping. This success is a result of the hard work of a large team of consultants and contractors, and on behalf of them all I express our gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
