The chief responsibilities of the Chair  will be to:<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>\u2022maintain established links and forge  new ones with government, professional organisations and other bodies,  including acting as CABE\u2019s principal contact with ministers<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Act as an ambassador, representing the  views of the Commission to CABE\u2019s audiences, and encourage public and  press interest in the cause of good architecture, urban design and  public spaceEngage with the range of CABE\u2019s activities and lead CABE\u2019s  dynamic board of Commissioners encouraging them to participate fully and  to:<\/p>\n<p>i) exercise strategic direction in seeking to raise  architecture and built environment standards and awareness throughout  England.<br \/>\nii) formulate the Commission\u2019s strategy for discharging the  functions assigned to it under the provisions of the Clean  Neighbourhoods and Environment Act<br \/>\niii) monitor CABE\u2019s performance,  use of resources and ensure accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022work with the Chief Executive to:<\/p>\n<p>i)ensure  that the commission, in reaching decisions takes proper account of all  relevant guidance, including that provided by sponsor and funding  departments, Cabinet Office and HMT<br \/>\nii)encourage high standards of  propriety and promote efficient and effective use of staff and other  resources throughout the organisation<\/p>\n<p>\u2022appraise and provide an assessment of  the performance of individual Commissioners on an annual basis, and on  request when they are being considered for reappointment to the  Commission, or for appointment to the board of another other public  body.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.culture.gov.uk\/working_with_us\/public_appointments\/5876.aspx\" href=\"http:\/\/www.culture.gov.uk\/working_with_us\/public_appointments\/5876.aspx\">http:\/\/www.culture.gov.uk\/working_with_us\/public_appointments\/5876.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) is the government\u2019s advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.
