\u2026 IHBC\u2019s Brighton 2021 School does not end here\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

David McDonald, IHBC Chair and Chair for the Day School webinars said: ‘It was a privilege and pleasure to be able to chair the IHBC’s second virtual Day School, opened most appropriately with a welcome from Lord Kerslake, Vice Chair<\/a> of the IHBC-supported All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Conservation, Places and People (CPP APPG)<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2026 especially good to continue our international reach from 2020\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

\u2018The quality of the speakers and the wide-ranging debates made for a most stimulating event. It was especially good to continue our international reach from 2020 with particularly strong contributions from Denmark\u2019s Jan Gehl, on designing places, and Donovan Rypkema from the US, on the economics of heritage.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018This was a very successful School in a decidedly experimental 2-day virtual format, and a special tribute to how IHBC staff, trustees and South East Branch worked together to benefit the historic environment sector’.<\/p>\n

Host South East Branch School committee Chair \u2013 and Thursday Retrofit webinar organising Chair – Jo Saady said: \u2018I am so pleased with how the whole event went, and particularly want to reiterate thanks to all the Branch members who gave their valuable time helping put the event together.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018What a range of informative and inspiring speakers, and great CPD points too! I personally also enjoyed the more personal sessions at the learning-led MarketPlace<\/a> with Donovan Rypkema in person, and hearing about examples of fellow IHBC member Eimear Murphy’s amazing work.\u00a0 The ability to engage and directly ask questions with the MarketPlace Stallholders<\/a> was especially appreciated. \u2018<\/p>\n

\u2026 can’t wait for next year’s event in Aberdeen\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018Initial delegate responses show that our highly experimental format \u2013 shaped around one of the pandemic\u2019s most intimidating nightmares: 2-days of \u2018screen time\u2019 learning and practice reviews \u2013 was a resounding success, with some 96% of respondents saying they\u2019d return for more!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Hopefully, as the COVD-19 impacts recede, we\u2019ll never need to repeat the format exactly, but with 96% also offering 3 stars or more too, this proves that your institute once again has delivered on a core corporate and charitable duty!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Supporting accessible learning and continuous professional development (CPD) across our members and networks is a basic responsibility for the IHBC.\u00a0 As in the 2020 Virtual School, it seems our experimental re-modelling has once again succeeded, despite the pandemic!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018And of course we will apply the lessons learned at Brighton 2021 across all our future events, not least our next School: Aberdeen 2022<\/a>: #IHBCAberdeen2022!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018As in the 2020 Virtual School<\/a> too, we will continue the dialogue on places far beyond the 2021 School event itself, across speakers, delegates and MarketPlace stallholders.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Many reports are yet to come \u2013 records and presentations, reports, detailed feedback, delegate insights, sector advocacy, speaker responses and more – and these will appear in the coming weeks, months and even years.\u00a0 Remember, the IHBC\u2019s Brighton 2021 School does not end here!\u2019<\/p>\n
