{"id":30219,"date":"2021-06-05T16:09:42","date_gmt":"2021-06-05T15:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=30219"},"modified":"2021-06-04T18:20:57","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T17:20:57","slug":"ihbc-welcomes-world-environment-day-2021-5-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=30219","title":{"rendered":"IHBC welcomes World Environment Day 2021: 5 June"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/UNEnvironment_050621.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-30220\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/UNEnvironment_050621.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a>The IHBC has welcomed the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) World Environment Day 2021 on 5 June, with this year\u2019s global theme being Ecosystem Restoration.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;increasing recognition that healing from the pandemic is linked to healing the planet&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>UN Environment Programme writes:<\/p>\n<p>With the world beginning to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is increasing recognition that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/daily-covid-19-cases-reach-new-high-new-report-examines-how-prevent-future?_ga=2.13873200.605152704.1622442868-927944174.1597313799\">healing from the pandemic is linked to healing the planet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Resetting humanity\u2019s relationship with nature will be the focus of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/worldenvironmentday.global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Environment Day on June 5<\/a>, which also marks the launch of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/decadeonrestoration.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration<\/a>, a ten-year global push to prevent, halt and reverse ecosystem degradation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to lose hope when we think of the sheer magnitude of the challenges we face and the avalanche of bad news that we wake up to every morning,\u201d said Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut just as we caused the climate crisis, the biodiversity crisis and the pollution crisis, we can reverse the damage that we\u2019ve done; we can be the first generation to reimagine, to recreate and to restore nature to kickstart action for a better world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/press-release\/pakistan-host-world-environment-day-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pakistan is the host country<\/a>\u00a0for World Environment Day and showcasing its own restoration initiatives, such as its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/pakistans-ten-billion-tree-tsunami\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project<\/a>, which aims to plant 10 billion trees by 2023.
