{"id":30145,"date":"2021-05-29T16:09:16","date_gmt":"2021-05-29T15:09:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=30145"},"modified":"2021-05-29T18:13:10","modified_gmt":"2021-05-29T17:13:10","slug":"conservation-places-and-people-appg-inaugural-inquiry-update-on-first-session-evidence-with-he-tha-and-fmb-speaking-to-kerslake-wellington-grundy-carrington-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=30145","title":{"rendered":"Conservation, Places and People APPG inaugural Inquiry: Update on first session evidence, with HE, THA and FMB speaking to Kerslake, Wellington, Grundy, Carrington and more!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CPP_APPG_Inquiry_21_C_301120.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-28548\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CPP_APPG_Inquiry_21_C_301120-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>The first oral evidence session of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on <a href=\"https:\/\/conservationplacespeople.appg.info\/\">Conservation, Places and People (CPP APPG)<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CPPeopleAPPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@CPPeopleAPPG<\/a>\u00a0inaugural inquiry into the \u2018Value of Heritage\u2019 took place in a closed session on 26 May, chaired by Layla Moran MP, and including Lord Kerslake; James Grundy MP; the Duke of Wellington, the Earl of Devon and Lord Carrington, all seeking new ways forward in conservation economics, inspired by Historic England; the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), and The Heritage Alliance (THA).<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>IHBC Chair David McDonald said: \u2018The IHBC is still learning how best to support this critical new APPG as its Secretariat, but we were absolutely delighted with the submissions and the discussions between key players and engaged politicians such as Layla and Lord Kerslake \u2013 who is just stepping down as President of the Local Government Association &#8211; that can help us all make a real difference\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to personally thank again all those involved on the day, especially Layla who took such care as chair to make sure all the key points were raised, explored and addressed!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018In the coming weeks we\u2019ll get more records and reports out about this historic event.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We appreciate that this has been a slow process, not helped by a pandemic.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also been less accessible than many would expect, as the APPG members were keen to explore ideas outside the public gaze.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That said, we\u2019re delighted to highlight a unique opportunity for anyone to find out more about the processes of working with this very special APPG, and the often fraught world and timescales of political leads!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019ll have a stall on our work as Secretariat at the <a href=\"https:\/\/marketplace.ihbc.org.uk\/\">Heritage MarketPlace<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/brighton2021.ihbc.org.uk\/\">IHBC\u2019s 2021 School<\/a>, so if you do want to find out more about any of this, just join us on 18 June!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>David Blackman, consultant to the IHBC as APPG secretariat, writes:<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday 26 May saw the first oral evidence session of the Conservation, Places and People (CPP) All Party Parliamentary Group\u2019s inaugural inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>The opening oral evidence of the \u2018Value of Heritage\u2019 inquiry examined issues surrounding heritage and the economy.
