{"id":2985,"date":"2011-07-28T09:42:58","date_gmt":"2011-07-28T09:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=2985"},"modified":"2011-07-28T09:42:58","modified_gmt":"2011-07-28T09:42:58","slug":"vat-cost-sharing-exemption-consultation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=2985","title":{"rendered":"VAT: Cost Sharing Exemption consultation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">HMRC is carrying out a consultation on a possible model for a cost sharing exemption that might be introduced in the\u00a0UK, with a response date of\u00a030 September 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), the link body for built environment NGOs in Scotland, is organising a response to the consultation in support of its members.\u00a0\u00a0BEFS Director Craig Stirrat writes:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018HMRC wants to hear the views of organisations on plans to make use of the VAT cost sharing exemption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The exemption, which is a European law, allows businesses and organisations making VAT exempt and\/or non business supplies to form cost sharing groups to achieve cost savings and economies of scale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once formed the groups are relieved of a VAT charge on their supplies, if all the conditions of the exemption are met.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the consultation is to examine how the VAT cost sharing exemption might best be used by UK organisations, and to look at a framework for its possible implementation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Were it to be implemented, the exemption could remove the VAT charge preventing institutions such as charities from gaining efficiencies by sharing costs with each other.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BEFS is organising a Financial resilience workshop on the\u00a022 August\u00a0for those members who have expressed an interest \u2013 and therefore this proposal will be of relevance to many BEFS members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>HMRC Consultation: <a href=\"http:\/\/customs.hmrc.gov.uk\/channelsPortalWebApp\/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_pageLabel=pageLibrary_ConsultationDocuments&amp;propertyType=document&amp;columns=1&amp;id=HMCE_PROD1_031398\" target=\"_blank\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HMRC is carrying out a consultation on a possible model for a cost sharing exemption that might be introduced in the\u00a0UK, with a response date of\u00a030 September 2011.
