\"\"<\/a>Europe\u2019s premiere urban \u2018planner for people\u2019, Jan Gehl, will anchor the morning session of the IHBC\u2019s 2021 Day School on 18 June, offering insights into how \u2013 and why \u2013 he evolved his unique brand of planning for people.<\/h3>\n

Jan Gehl said of the School: ‘I am delighted to be involved with this stimulating and challenging School programme, and look forward to lots of questions from and engagement with the audience as well as the other leads’.<\/p>\n

On his evolving presentation, Jan Gehl writes: \u2018First we form the cities, then they form us.<\/p>\n

\u2018First we form the buildings then they form us.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018There is a close relationship between what we invite for and what actually happens in a City or a Space.<\/p>\n

\u2018Jan is internationally renowned as an urbanist.\u00a0 Less familiar is how his early activity as a conservation architect and heritage enthusiast inspires his radical take on planning.\u00a0 In essence Jan shows how to learn the lessons of historic places \u2013 including his experience in Venice \u2013 to make places for people today!<\/p>\n

Representing the School hosts, the IHBC\u2019s South East Branch, Committee Chair and architect Jo Saady said: \u2018We are delighted that Jan is confirmed as the anchor in our line up for the morning session of our Brighton Day School.\u2019<\/p>\n

Jan Gehl co-founded Gehl Architects in 2000 with Helle S\u00f8holt and held a Partner position until 2011. Jan is currently a Senior Advisor at Gehl. He also continues to research and develop the people first approach through his books and lectures. Over the course of his career, he has published several books, including, \u2018Life Between Buildings\u2019, \u2018Cities for People\u2019, \u2018New City Spaces\u2019, \u2018Public Spaces \u2013 Public Life\u2019, \u2018New City Life\u2019, \u2018How to Study Public Life\u2019 and most recently \u2018People Cities\u2019 \/ \u2018Mennesker F\u00f8rst\u2019. He is an honorary fellow of RIBA, AIA, RAIC, and PIA.<\/p>\n
