{"id":29440,"date":"2021-03-19T15:48:51","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T15:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=29440"},"modified":"2021-03-19T15:48:51","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T15:48:51","slug":"40m-2nd-round-of-green-recovery-challenge-fund-opens-key-dates-from-22-03","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=29440","title":{"rendered":"\u00a340m (2nd) round of Green Recovery Challenge Fund opens: key dates from 22\/03"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/rural_image_open_government_licence_v3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29441\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/rural_image_open_government_licence_v3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a>Environmental charities and partners across England to benefit from fund which will create and retain jobs while restoring nature and tackling climate change, with a deadline for applications under \u00a3250k of 14 April, and for over 250k, expressions of interest are due by 22 March.<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: Open Government Licence v3.0<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;Grants of up to \u00a32 million each are now available&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;applicants must submit an expression of interest by 22 March&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>GOV UK writes:<\/p>\n<p>Grants of up to \u00a32 million each are now available to help the nation build back greener from the coronavirus pandemic, the government announced today [Tuesday 9 March].<\/p>\n<p>The second round of the\u00a0<a class=\"govuk-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heritagefund.org.uk\/funding\/application-guidance-green-recovery-challenge-fund-round-2\" rel=\"external\">Green Recovery Challenge fund<\/a>\u00a0will award up to \u00a340 million in grants to environmental charities and their partners across England to create and retain jobs while restoring nature and tackling climate change.<\/p>\n<p>All projects must contribute to at least one of the following themes of the Green Recovery Challenge Fund:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>nature conservation and restoration;<\/li>\n<li>nature-based solutions, particularly focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation; and,<\/li>\n<li>connecting people with nature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Almost \u00a340 million was awarded in November in the first round to 68 projects that will help to restore damaged habitats such as moorlands, wetlands and forests \u2013 which will see over 800,000 trees planted. The projects will also support conservation work and help to improve education about the environment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"environment-minister-rebecca-pow-said\">Environment Minister Rebecca Pow said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am delighted to launch the second round of the Green Recovery Challenge Fund to help kick-start more projects to restore nature, tackle climate change and create and retain thousands of jobs as society comes together for our planet. This is more important than ever as we build back greener from the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">&#8220;In the first round, we awarded grants across a broad variety of environmental projects, ranging from planting trees, and restoring peatlands to connecting people with green spaces, forests and protected landscapes. I encourage more organisations to apply so we can continue to make a real difference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The fund will be delivered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England, the Forestry Commission and the Environment Agency&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>For grants of over \u00a3250,000, applicants must submit an expression of interest by 22 March and if successful will be invited to submit a full application. The deadline for applications under \u00a3250,000 is 14 April.<\/p>\n<p>The second round of the Green Recovery Challenge Fund was announced as part of the Prime Minister\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"govuk-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/pm-outlines-his-ten-point-plan-for-a-green-industrial-revolution-for-250000-jobs\">Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution<\/a>\u00a0in November 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"govuk-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/pm-a-new-deal-for-britain\">The Prime Minister also re-iterated the government\u2019s commitment to re-foresting Britain by increasing planting to 30,000 hectares (75,000 acres) of trees every year by 2025<\/a>, and create a new patchwork of woodlands.
