Manchester\u2019s Finest<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n A\u00a0large \u2018stunning\u2019 Victorian bath house<\/b>\u00a0has been uncovered down at Mayfield, during works on creating the city\u2019s first public park in over 100 years.<\/p>\n The washhouse will have served the city\u2019s textile workers back in the day, and upon uncovering the site, archeologists from the\u00a0University of Salford<\/b>\u00a0found it to be in a \u2018stunning\u2019 condition \u2013 even though it had been buried under a car park for around 80 years.<\/p>\n The site itself was once home to a grand Italianate-style bath house, which opened in 1857 and served the city\u2019s population for generations \u2013 people whi worked in the city\u2019s numerous textile factories.<\/p>\n It was eventually demolished after being bombed in the Second World War, but the 20 metre pool miraculously survived…<\/p>\n The development is all part of the continuing renovation of the Mayfield area, a part of the city that has remained largely derelict for many years. In addition to the outstanding\u00a0Escape to Freight Island<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Mayfield Depot<\/b>, the renovations will include the city\u2019s first public park in more than 100 years, plus ample housing and leisure opportunities….<\/p>\n
