{"id":28966,"date":"2021-01-26T16:38:40","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T16:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28966"},"modified":"2021-01-26T16:38:40","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T16:38:40","slug":"bre-congratulates-home-of-2030-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28966","title":{"rendered":"BRE congratulates Home of 2030 winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/bre_260121.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28967\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/bre_260121.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a>Housing Minister Chris Pincher announced the joint winners of the Homeof2030 competition at an online HomesUK event.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026[+Home] proposes community-led self-build homes\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026[other proposals] &#8211; \u2026 sustainable homes that perpetuate a circular economy\u2026. traditional bio-based construction materials\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>BRE writes:<\/p>\n<p>BRE is delighted to congratulate the joint winners, who both proposed creative and innovative solutions to challenges we are also working to address:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>+Home designed by igloo Regeneration with Useful Projects, Expedition Engineers and Mawson Kerr, which proposes community-led self-build homes that people can design themselves.<\/li>\n<li>Connector Housing designed by Openstudio with Hoare Lea, LDA Design and Gardiner &amp; Theobald, a flexible and adaptable system for age-friendly, multi-generational housing and neighbourhoods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The other four shortlisted teams, and their proposals, were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perpendicular Architecture, humblebee and changebuilding, with a team including EcoSystems Exterior Architecture and Arup with Positive+?House which uses the latest in industry digitalisation and a distributed offsite manufacturing.<\/li>\n<li>HLM Architects with University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), Mid Group, Hydrock and Greenbuild, with a \u2018Forever Home\u2019 based on a universal manufacturing platform that enables flexible, affordable, and sustainable homes that perpetuate a circular economy.<\/li>\n<li>Outpost with Propagating Dan, Strawworks, Gaia Group, Max Fordham, Milk, Momentum and EcoCocon with Janus, which combines traditional bio-based construction materials with modern 21st century techniques to create homes that are designed for a post fossil fuel age.<\/li>\n<li>Studio OPEN with Elementa Consulting, with a community-focused \u2018Forest City\u2019 design, with a central garden shared between four homes which are built from locally sourced materials and with modern construction methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Home of 2030 programme also included a Young Persons\u2019 Challenge, an innovation challenge for manufacturers of new products and systems and a public engagement exercise to understand what people want from future homes.<\/p>\n<p>BRE\u2019s Smart Assets Lead Dr Ozak Esu was on the judging panel for the Young Persons\u2019 Challenge, which was won by University of Nottingham student Rachael Milliner. Her \u2018Urban Co-Existing\u2019 design focuses on the Meadows Estate in Nottingham, reinvigorating the area with urban farming spaces which give residents access to fresh, healthy food.<\/p>\n<p>[Dr Ozak said] \u201cI was impressed by the innovative ideas and enthusiasm demonstrated by the entrants, their considerations for sustainability, ideas for implementing technology, healthy, age friendly and inclusive living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s entries show the incredible pipeline of talent in schools and universities, which our industry stands to gain, through sustained encouragement and initiatives like the Home of 2030 competition. Congratulations to the winner and finalists!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the competition has formally ended, the Home of 2030 project continues in a number of ways and we hope will go on to inspire new homes.
