{"id":28794,"date":"2021-01-08T16:13:37","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T16:13:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28794"},"modified":"2021-01-08T16:13:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T16:13:37","slug":"chn-on-2020-in-review-as-the-climate-heritage-network-turns-1-year-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28794","title":{"rendered":"CHN on \u20182020 in Review\u2019, as the Climate Heritage Network turns 1 year old"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/CCHN_080121.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28795\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/CCHN_080121.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a>As the international link body Climate Heritage Network (CHN) turns 1 year old, it has reported back on 2020.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 power of culture to drive transformative action\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u20268 activities designed to create tools to mobilise culture for climate action\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>CHN writes:<\/p>\n<p>In late 2019,\u00a0leaders from around the world came together to mobilise arts, culture, and heritage for climate action, acknowledging that too often these\u00a0fields had been missing from this critical work.\u00a0 From the parapets of Edinburgh Castle,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/culture-and-heritage-bodies-urged-to-take-climate-change-action-arts-culture-heritage-and-climate-leaders-gather-in-edinburgh-for-launch-of-new-climate-heritage-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Climate Heritage Network was launched<\/a>\u00a0with a goal of fortifying the response to climate change with the perspectives and knowledge that only\u00a0culture can provide. Our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">growing global network<\/a>\u00a0has achieved a lot over these past 12 months. As we reflect on those accomplishments, our thanks go out to\u00a0everyone\u00a0who assisted in 2020, along with an invitation\u00a0to all who believe in the power of culture to drive transformative\u00a0action to join us in 2021!<\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic left many cultural organisations struggling to maintain climate change programming amid competing demands. The CHN\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.culturexclimate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Culture x Climate programme<\/a>\u00a0was designed to help meet this challenge through 30 CHN and affiliated organisation events, as well as open-source themes, templates, and social media assets. A collaboration with Historic England\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/historicengland.org.uk\/services-skills\/training-skills\/online-training\/webinars\/climate-friday-webinars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">delivered 7 weekly webinars<\/a>\u00a0as well. All in all, over 3,000 of you participated in CxC events!<\/p>\n<p>The CHN welcomed Elizabeth Erasito of the National Trust of Fiji\u00a0<em>(pictured left)<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/mayor-of-cuenca-pedro-palacios-ullauri-named-co-chair-of-the-climate-heritage-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mayor Pedro Palacios<\/a>\u00a0of the City of Cuenca, Ecuador\u00a0<em>(right)<\/em>\u00a0as Co-Chairs of its Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean regions. All 5 CHN regions\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/dac8b5d35927\/culture-x-climate-week-4-planning-for-climate-change-5855028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">held forums<\/a>\u00a0in 2020 where colleagues could network and share experiences.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019 the CHN launched its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/climate-heritage-network-launches-plan-to-mobilise-arts-culture-and-heritage-for-climate-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madrid-to-Glasgow Arts, Culture and Heritage Climate Action Plan<\/a>, consisting of 8 activities designed to create tools to mobilise culture for climate action. 2020 saw the launch of 7\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/working-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">volunteer working groups<\/a>\u00a0made up of CHN members committed to completing these activities by COP26 in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>UN-Habitat, the UN human settlements program,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/world-urban-forum-10-a-breakthrough-moment-for-cities-climate-change-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executed a new Memorandum of Understanding<\/a>\u00a0which includes collaboration on strengthening the Climate Heritage Network and efforts to recognise the cultural dimensions of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>CHN members from around the world, led by institutions in Africa and the UK, are contributing to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climateheritage.org\/chn-members-help-deliver-new-project-to-support-climate-action-in-africa-through-cultural-heritage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new project to support climate action in Africa<\/a>\u00a0through cultural heritage. The project, which was launched in November, will pilot the Climate Vulnerability Index at cultural sites in Nigeria and Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>The CHN&#8217;s first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.culturexclimate.org\/event-list\/chn-general-assembly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual General Assembly<\/a>\u00a0was devoted to planning culture sector engagement at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 UN Climate Summit (COP26)<\/a>.
