\"\"<\/a>The Association of Detectorists is aiming to become an Institute, a ‘Community Interest Company’ planned with an ‘asset lock’ to the proposed Charity ‘The Detectorists Foundation’\u2019.<\/h3>\n

\u2026 overwhelming support from the major archaeological and heritage bodies\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

The Association of Detectorists writes:<\/p>\n

With overwhelming support from the major archaeological and heritage bodies and institutes, we look to develop new standards and methodologies in the utilising of metal detectors to archaeological principles.<\/p>\n

With the instrument currently under-utilised in professional practice, our mission is to advocate its use due to the unique and intrinsic capabilities in locating artefacts on archaeological sites where the human eye alone is not sufficient.\u00a0 We look to ensure that the instrument is integrated into practice and viewed as a critical tool in the conservation and preservation of our portable past\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u2026 As proposed to the Charity Commission, ‘The Detectorists Foundation’ will become an \u2018asset linked body\u2019 to the \u2018Association of Detectorists CIC\u2019 and future Institute. This will allow the charity to raise funds for projects such as a ‘short film’ based on the ‘Code of Practice’ available to all detectorists, whilst externally funding schemes, projects and good causes such as contributing towards the ‘Portable Antiquities Scheme’.<\/p>\n

The Detectorists Foundation with the objective of conservation and preservation, looks to fundraise to aide research and support the education of detectorists, to raise the profile of metal detecting for public good, to recognise responsible practices and endorse archaeological methods. We will encourage the disclosure and research of new archaeological discoveries, look to promote and support the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the ethical recording and preservation of artefacts and treasure.<\/p>\n
