Local heritage – buildings, monuments, sites, places, areas or landscapes \u2013 builds and reinforces local character and distinctiveness in the historic environment. It can be identified in various ways, one of which is through a local heritage list which allows better account to be taken of the significance of any building or site so listed in planning applications affecting it or its setting.<\/p>\n

This advice supports communities and local authorities in introducing a local heritage list in their area or making changes to an existing list. Consistent and accountable selection criteria used in its preparation reinforce the value of a local heritage list and encourage more consistency in the identification and management of local heritage assets, benefiting owners and developers needing to understand local development opportunities and constraints. A local heritage list can celebrate the breadth of the historic environment of a local area and ensure the proper recording of local heritage assets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
