trustees focussed first on the duties of a trustee &#8230;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; \u00a0advisory Council &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; byelaws that represent the same modern standards\u00a0 &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The adoption by the IHBC\u2019s 2020 AGM of new Articles of Association secures the foundation for a more contemporary structure and more substantial governance, as well as a more inclusive approach to membership and practitioner support.<\/p>\n<p>Major developments from the original constitution include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Board with elected trustees focussed first on the duties of a trustee<\/li>\n<li>An overseeing and advisory Council that blends elected, nominated and selected representatives from across the UK-wide Branches and membership<\/li>\n<li>A mandate to draw up byelaws that represent the same modern standards seen in the new Articles, while also reflecting the unique legacy, profile, needs and aspirations of the IHBC\u2019s interdisciplinary membership and multidisciplinary members, its Committees, Working Groups and practice networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The IHBC has already received approval for the changes from UK charity regulators in line with guidance.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; [adoption of] new Articles marks the next step in the modernisation of the IHBC &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; corporate and individual chartership is an obvious next step &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>IHBC President Mike Brown said: \u2018The enthusiastic adoption by our members of the new Articles marks the next step in the modernisation of the IHBC as a specialist and professional body and charity for the 21st century.\u00a0 As such, they are paving the way for our modernisation and much more.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We look forward to embedding its principles into our new governance and, beyond that, to lifting the IHBC so it can be recognised for its unique approach to built and historic environment conservation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For many, corporate and individual chartership is an obvious next step, so we will look very closely at that, in line with our corporate planning\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Chair David McDonald said: \u2018I\u2019m delighted that these new Articles of Association have been so well received.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They build on the IHBC\u2019s 2019 AGM\u2019s endorsement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/governance\/files\/Proposal%20for%20future%20governance%20final%20v5%20160319.pdf\"><em>\u2018Proposal for future governance of the Institute\u2019<\/em><\/a>, while they also represent the new standards our members are demanding of the IHBC as their professional body and ethical advocate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The IHBC supports both conservation standards for built and historic specialists as well as a wider spectrum of cost-effective services and guidance for the diverse players that shape our valued places.\u00a0 Our members and networks need the best and most flexible support we can offer, and these articles will underpin our response to their needs: cultural, social, environmental and economic.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; [Articles are] the starting point for testing the new model governance &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>IHBC Secretary Jo Evans said: \u2018The new Articles are not written in stone.\u00a0 Rather they are the starting point for testing the new model governance through detailed implementation.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; We will now build our byelaws &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018We will now build our byelaws to align with the new constitutional framework, while also reflecting both our practice needs and our legacy.\u00a0 If these raise issues with any aspects of the Articles, we will look at those again too.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; immediate priority &#8230; to arrange new AGM &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018The immediate priority is of course to arrange new AGM operating under the adopted articles, which trustees will be examining in the coming weeks.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;
