{"id":28500,"date":"2020-12-04T17:20:36","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T17:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28500"},"modified":"2020-12-04T17:20:36","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T17:20:36","slug":"ihbcs-2020-agm-adopts-cp25-new-corporate-plan-for-2020-25-offers-familiar-strategy-as-ihbc-faces-yet-more-uncharted-territory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28500","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s 2020 AGM adopts \u2018CP25\u2019: New Corporate Plan for 2020-25 offers familiar strategy as IHBC faces yet more \u2018uncharted territory\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28501\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CP25-217x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" \/>The IHBC\u2019s 2020 AGM has seen the adoption by members of a new <em>Corporate Plan<\/em> for 2020-25, (\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/resources\/IHBC%20Corporate%20Plan%202020-25%20%28%27CP25%27%29%20-%20Approved%20by%20IHBC%20trustees%20for%20AGM%202020.pdf\">CP25<\/a>\u2019) &#8211; entitled \u2018<em>Conservation Advocacy And Influence<\/em>\u2026<em>\u2019<\/em> \u2013 distilling the strategies that have underpinned the IHBC\u2019s successful corporate planning \u2018for uncharted territory\u2019 to date.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; essential reference for current and future trustees &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; ambitions to advocate and influence on behalf of conservation &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>IHBC Chair David McDonald writes: \u2018The plans in \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/resources\/IHBC%20Corporate%20Plan%202020-25%20%28%27CP25%27%29%20-%20Approved%20by%20IHBC%20trustees%20for%20AGM%202020.pdf\">CP25<\/a>\u2019 will keep us on track in a complex and busy future under a new constitution.\u00a0 It reminds us who we are, and what we are trying to do and why.\u00a0 As such it is an essential reference for current and future trustees and other volunteers.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;\u00a0comfortably familiar strategy! &#8230;\u00a0 has stood us in good stead through previous turbulent times &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; plan has been developed from previous plans &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018Our new Corporate Plan for 2020-25 builds on the success of previous corporate planning for uncharted territory, as developed originally under the oversight of the then IHBC Communications Chair Charles Strang.\u00a0 Though somewhat slimmed down in later years, they all adopted a comfortably familiar strategy!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That strategy has stood us in good stead through previous turbulent times, from sectoral changes in England to structural changes in Scotland and economic crises across the UK.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; any organisation might feel overwhelmed by even the IHBC\u2019s most immediate of challenges &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018In essence, the <em>Plan<\/em> calls on us to focus on securing our charitable objects through supporting members\u2019 needs, ignore the distractions, and make sure our services continue to offer the best possible value!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And just now, any organisation might feel overwhelmed by even the IHBC\u2019s most immediate of challenges.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A new constitution has to be implemented, with new byelaws to write as a priority.\u00a0 A new Westminster Parliamentary Group to support adds a-political complexities, while a new Annual School format for mid- and post-pandemic needs to be devised and put in place urgently.\u00a0 Also we have a new board of trustees and a new council to recruit, as well as COVID-19-compliant practice standards to promote.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230; all just new jobs that need doing, with risks to manage &#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018However as the \u2018Pandemic Preamble\u2019 to the updated version of our new <em>Corporate Plan <\/em>makes clear, these are all just new jobs that need doing, with risks to manage, so our overarching approach still makes absolute sense.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The IHBC\u2019s writes in \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/resources\/IHBC%20Corporate%20Plan%202020-25%20%28%27CP25%27%29%20-%20Approved%20by%20IHBC%20trustees%20for%20AGM%202020.pdf\">CP25<\/a>\u2019:<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 The main text of this \u2018Corporate Plan\u2019 was drafted and consulted on around the outset of the most dramatic social change in modern times: the COVID-19 pandemic. The impacts of that crisis are still unfolding, and no-one knows how we will fare, or indeed where we will be, in the coming years\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Yet none of this changes this plan\u2019s titular ambitions to advocate and influence on behalf of conservation, while \u2018supporting practice\u2019 and \u2018extending benefits\u2019, for members and for society.\u00a0 In fact it only emphasises how relevant, forward-looking and important this work actually is to society. So the original draft of this plan has not been substantially changed since the onset of these tumultuous times.\u00a0 It has been simplified and adjusted in light of feedback, but not much more than that\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 This strategy is robust because this plan has been developed from previous plans, plans that effectively guided the organisation in times that may have been less tumultuous globally than those today, but were certainly no less threatening to the institute.\u00a0 As they informed the organisation and our trustees successfully then, so we see every reason to think this plan can guide us now\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>STRATEGY: ACTIONS FOR CP25<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u00a0&#8230; Helping people &#8230; Helping conservation &#8230; Helping conservation professionals &#8230;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>OBJECT A: Helping people &#8211; <em>Extend conservation advocacy and access, to improve the civic and social contexts within which our members secure conservation<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary action for 2020 to 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Secure and embed formal, public recognition of IHBC accreditation as a mark competence in built and historic environment conservation<\/p>\n<p>KEY ACTIONS:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Advance the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/about\/mps-and-lords\/members\/apg\/\">All-Party Parliamentary Group<\/a> (\u2018APPG\u2019) as a UK-wide political resource delivering on this object<\/li>\n<li>Consolidate the emerging \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/resources_head\/ihbc_funded\/index.html\">IHBC CREATIVE Conservation Fund<\/a>\u2019 as a sustainable resource enhancing conservation investment and outcomes<\/li>\n<li>Refine operations to align with an enhanced and more accessible public profile<\/li>\n<li>Highlight the value of built and historic environment conservation as a carbon management strategy in the mitigation of climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>OBJECT B: Helping conservation &#8211; <em>Enhance support for specialist and non-specialist<\/em>\u00a0 <em>practitioners, to enhance the practice environment within which our members secure conservation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary action for 2020 to 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Extend individual and network users of the IHBC\u2019s public and membership services, digital and otherwise, including social media, HESPR, Jobs <em>etc<\/em>., Conservation Wiki, Caring for your home etc.,.<\/p>\n<p>KEY ACTIONS:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Enhance training, support, recognition and benefits of IHBC accreditation across key built and historic environment stakeholder interests<\/li>\n<li>Simplify and focus IHBC operations and services to facilitate access, use and support by and for all practitioners<\/li>\n<li>Extend core specialist networks and credibility:\n<ol>\n<li>Refine and extend our international constituency by upgrading our international strategy in accordance with any new constitution<\/li>\n<li>Explore and test chartered status internally and externally, including through a cost-benefit analysis, and in accordance with any new constitution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>OBJECT C: Helping conservation professionals &#8211;
