{"id":28336,"date":"2020-11-20T16:30:21","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T16:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28336"},"modified":"2020-11-20T16:31:35","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T16:31:35","slug":"wellcome-trust-agrees-506m-takeover-of-urban-civic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28336","title":{"rendered":"Wellcome Trust agrees \u00a3506m takeover of Urban &#038; Civic"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/CivilSocietyNews_201120.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28337 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/CivilSocietyNews_201120.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a>The Wellcome Trust has agreed a \u00a3506 million takeover of a London-listed developer that specialises in building huge developments in commuter hotspots on brownfield sites.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;Wellcome does not intend to alter the Urban&amp;Civic Group\u2019s strategy&#8230;.<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>Civil Society News<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Wellcome Trust is set to buy Urban&amp;Civic after it offered\u00a0a \u00a3506m bid for the property developer.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Urban&amp;Civic shareholders must back the offer of 345p for each share in the business.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The property developer specialises in large regeneration projects that use brownfield sites to provide serviced plots to housebuilders.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Wellcome is an independent foundation and all of its work is funded from an investment portfolio valued at \u00a326.8bn, as of 30 September 2019.\u00a0An in-house team of investment professionals manage Wellcome\u2019s portfolio.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The medical research charity will pay in cash, rather than shares.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8216;Fully aligned with our existing strategy of investing in businesses over the long term&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The acquisition will be affected by a court-sanctioned scheme of arrangement, and the scheme must be approved by 75% of scheme shareholders.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Wellcome intends that the Urban&amp;Civic Group will continue to pursue its existing pipeline of development opportunities and continue to invest in new opportunities as they arise. Wellcome does not intend to alter the Urban&amp;Civic Group\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Peter Pereira Gray, managing partner and chief executive of the investment division of Wellcome, said: \u201cWe are very pleased to announce this recommended offer, which is fully aligned with our existing strategy of investing in businesses over the long term.
