{"id":28310,"date":"2020-11-17T16:08:58","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T16:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28310"},"modified":"2020-11-16T18:43:47","modified_gmt":"2020-11-16T18:43:47","slug":"ihbcs-hespr-special-interest-sector-news-pick-of-the-week-chinese-ruins-transformed-into-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=28310","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s HESPR \u2018Special Interest Sector News\u2019 pick of the week: \u2018Chinese ruins transformed into museum\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28311\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dezeen_awards_081120-300x274.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"274\" \/>The IHBC\u2019s heritage business register HESPR \u2013 our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/hespr\/\">Historic Environment Service Providers Recognition<\/a> quality assurance scheme for heritage services \u2013 emails members weekly \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=23522\"><em>News and Tender Alerts<\/em><\/a><em>\u2019<\/em>, with notices from across the development sector\u2019s publications, and this week features <em>Dezeen<\/em>\u2019s \u2018Chinese ruins transformed into museum<em>\u2019<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 three galleries that are dedicated to the past, present and future of Shanghai\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026Old buildings embody the history and culture of the ancient village\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>Dezeen<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>A white-concrete gallery that slots into the ruins of a brick house is among the three exhibition spaces that make up the Zhang Yan Cultural Museum in China.<\/p>\n<p>The museum was designed by Shenzhen Horizontal Design to help revive the village of Zhang Yan in Shanghai&#8217;s suburbs and demonstrate how old, rural architecture in China can be reused.<\/p>\n<p>It has since been named as one of five projects shortlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2020 in the cultural building category.<\/p>\n<p>Shenzhen Horizontal Design&#8217;s design for Zhang Yan Cultural Museum comprises three galleries that are dedicated to the past, present and future of Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the galleries are housed within existing structures, including the village&#8217;s original history museum and the ruins of a dilapidated family home from the late Qing dynasty \u2013 the final imperial dynasty in China dating between 1644 to 1912.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Preservation, growth, and expansion is our strategy for the renovation and rehabilitation of Zhang Yan Village,\u2019 explained Shenzhen Horizontal Design.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Old buildings embody the history and culture of the ancient village,\u2019 it said. \u2018They must remain and be improved by means of reinforcement and preservation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For the dilapidated buildings whose interior space is no longer available, cleaning up the broken parts effectively retain the functional ones.
