To find out more join the launch of the 2020 Vision and read future <a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/\">Newsblogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;give effective control over demolition&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;set out criteria for demolition in terms of embodied energy&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The IHBC\u2019 Chair, David McDonald writes:<\/p>\n<p>My proposals are as follows\u2026<\/p>\n<p>First, both legislation (including statutory instruments) and policy need to be changed to give effective control over demolition, with greater consideration given to conservation of embodied energy.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;a reduction in VAT for works to existing buildings&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Second, changes to the NPPF which should set out criteria for demolition in terms of embodied energy which then becomes a key material planning consideration in the determination of planning applications.<\/p>\n<p>Third (and not planning legislation), a reduction in VAT for works to existing buildings. This one is certainly not an original proposal and has been subject of campaigning by the IHBC and others.
