Unlike other types of sliding doors<\/a>, most pocket doors are not made from glass<\/a>, although they may feature glass<\/a> windows<\/a>, sometimes for decorative purposes\u2026.<\/p>\n

Pocket doors originated in the 1850s, when they appeared both in the UK<\/a> and the US. Their popularity grew in the 1880s as technological improvements were made to the installation<\/a> methods. However, in the mid 1920s, their popularity began to fade and hinged doors<\/a> became more fashionable. They once again sprang into favour in the 1950s, particularly in post-war housing<\/a>.<\/p>\n
