{"id":27237,"date":"2020-08-08T16:05:14","date_gmt":"2020-08-08T15:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=27237"},"modified":"2020-08-08T16:05:14","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T15:05:14","slug":"sct-scotlands-doors-open-days-2020-is-going-digital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=27237","title":{"rendered":"SCT: Scotland\u2019s DOORS OPEN DAYS 2020 is going digital!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27238\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Doors_Open_Scotland_080820.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"144\" \/>The Scottish Civic Trust reports that Scotland\u2019s biggest free festival of architecture &#8211; Doors Open Days 2020 &#8211; will present its largest ever digital offering this September, celebrating Scotland\u2019s buildings and stories online, through tours, lectures, DIY learning events and more.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Civic Trust writes:<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re responding to current concerns surrounding COVID-19 by making Doors Open Days 2020 more digital so that people across Scotland and the world can continue to safely explore Scotland\u2019s buildings, spaces and places. A limited number of venues will still be open for physical visits this year, but we expect most people will enjoy new and cherished Scottish sites from the comfort of their armchair!<\/p>\n<p>All across Scotland, we\u2019re harnessing the good will and spirit of adventure of local organisations to create unique content that will inspire, educate and amuse anyone with an interest in buildings.\u00a0Last year virtual visitors could scale the heights of Paisley Abbey and our Young Advisory Panel staged Instagram takeovers \u2013 what digital discoveries will you make this year? We\u2019re asking venues and groups to produce a wide range of\u00a0 online offerings, such as Facebook and Instagram Live guided tours, recorded oral histories, webinars, 360-degree tours, virtual exhibitions, question and answer sessions and more. If you\u2019re interested in joining in, we have compiled some great\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doorsopendays.org.uk\/hosting\/digital-guidance-2020\/\">resources and ideas<\/a>\u00a0for venues and organisations interested in taking part that will help you take the first steps.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be hosting everything here\u00a0on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doorsopendays.org.uk\/\">Doors Open Days website<\/a>, from where you\u2019ll be able to explore nooks and crannies in venues large and small across Scotland this September. The Scottish Civic Trust will also be creating a weekly zine highlighting all of the exciting digital events and tours, which will be sent out through Doors Open Days\u2019 social media channels and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scottishcivictrust.us7.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=5ab3b89103f73d1108ebcee1a&amp;id=162a19fe14\">e-bulletin<\/a>. Make sure to sign up to receive your zine!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ticket booking systems only for physical access to venues<br \/>\n<\/strong>We only encourage people to access buildings where the venue operators are confident it\u2019s safe to do so. The small number of events and buildings that will be open for physical visits will use a ticketing system to monitor and ensure safe access according to the most current social distancing guidelines.\u00a0 Numbers of visitors will be limited and monitored in line with the latest government recommendations appropriate to the Phase of lockdown in Scotland and the requirements of their and our insurers.<\/p>\n<p>Director of the Scottish Civic Trust, Dr Susan O\u2019Connor, said:<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re delighted to encourage our venues to become more digital this year through Doors Open Days &#8211; it\u2019s the best way to reach a broader range of people with Scotland\u2019s unique heritage, both at home and across the world. In particular, we\u2019re looking forward to helping our beautiful buildings and places become more accessible to those who wouldn\u2019t normally be able to take part in Doors Open Days for physical or cultural reasons.
