It means beautiful areas and better homes.

We are therefore uniting to urge the UK Government to keep planning in England local.

Any suggestion that planning is a barrier to housebuilding is a myth. Nine in 10 planning applications are approved by councils, while more than a million homes given planning permission in the last decade have not yet been built.

Taking further planning powers away from communities and councils will only deprive them of the ability to define the area they live in and know best and risks giving developers the freedom to ride roughshod over local areas.

If the country is to come back stronger from COVID-19, then local communities must be at the heart of the recovery.

Signatories include:

Cllr James Jamieson, Local Government Association Chairman

Cllr Mark Crane, District Councils’ Network lead member for stronger economies

Cllr Philip Atkins, County Councils Network spokesperson for housing and planning

Cllr Sue Baxter, Chairman of the National Association of Local Councils

Crispin Truman, Chief Executive of CPRE, the countryside charity

Nigel Riglar, ADEPT President

Fiona Howie, Chief Executive of the Town and Country Planning Association

Seán O’Reilly, Director of The Institute of Historic Building Conservation

Richard Morris, President of the Planning Officers Society for 2020/2021

Peter Eversden MBE, Chair of the London Forum of Amenity and Civic Societies

Victoria Hills, Chief Executive, Royal Town Planning Institute

Ian Harvey, Executive Director, Civic Voice

Gavin Smart, Chief Executive, Chartered Institute of Housing

Alan Jones, President, Royal Institute of British Architects

Cllr Cecilia Motley, Chair of the Rural Services Network

Jonathan Werran, Chief Executive of Localis

Fore more background see the NewsBlog

The IHBC has added its name alongside partners from across England in supporting a call led by the Local Government Association (LGA) to ‘urge the UK Government to keep planning in England local’, debunking ‘Any suggestion that planning is a … Continue reading →

[1

post-27079","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ihbc-newsblog
["GET
