Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund Ros Kerslake has said that the powerful protests happening across the world, including the UK, calling for a re-examination and a redress of racial inequality has led her to reflect on The Fund\u2019s efforts and accelerate change.<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
The Heritage Fund writes:<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the largest funder of the UK’s heritage, are we doing enough to open up heritage to a wider range of people?<\/p>\n
“Inclusion has been a focus for the organisation for many years and in 2019 we adopted a\u00a0mandatory inclusion outcome<\/a>\u00a0for our grants and an updated\u00a0Workforce Equality Statement<\/a>. These are steps in the right direction, but I believe that we need to do much more.\u201d<\/p>\n As part of the review, we will be consulting widely\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>both internally and externally\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>and will listen and act on what we learn.<\/p>\n Maria Adebowale-Schwarte<\/a>\u00a0will chair a taskforce to oversee the review. Maria has been a trustee at The Fund since 2018. She brings 25 years of experience working across the heritage, environment and grant-making sectors, with a focus on inclusive place and urban renewal strategy.<\/p>\n Maria said: \u201cLike Ros, I have been deeply affected by the events unfolding around the world following the death of George Floyd. It has given a lot of individuals and organisations pause for thought about whether they are part of the problem and more importantly, whether they want to be part of the solution.<\/p>\n \u201cI welcome The Fund\u2019s decision to implement this review and take decisive action to drive a greater integration of equality, diversity and inclusion, both within the organisation and as a funder.\u201d<\/p>\n The taskforce will report to the Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n Ros said: \u201cHeritage with inclusion at its heart is incredibly powerful in bringing people together and creating a more equitable society for all.<\/p>\n \u201cI am proud of the difference we\u2019ve already been able to make \u2013 from investing\u00a0\u00a34m to establish the Black Cultural Archives<\/a>, preserving stories from\u00a0the Windrush generation<\/a>\u00a0and people’s experiences of the\u00a0decriminalisation of homosexuality in Northern Ireland<\/a>, to funding heritage projects that help people\u00a0overcome isolation<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0improve their mental health<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 but I am determined that we will do more.<\/p>\n This review is a commitment to building an environment that is free from racism and inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more….<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund Ros Kerslake has said that the powerful protests happening across the world, including the UK, calling for a re-examination and a redress of racial inequality has led her to reflect on The … Continue reading Launching a taskforce<\/h2>\n
