{"id":26692,"date":"2020-06-21T16:35:57","date_gmt":"2020-06-21T15:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26692"},"modified":"2020-06-21T16:35:57","modified_gmt":"2020-06-21T15:35:57","slug":"icomos-and-europa-nostra-to-develop-european-heritage-green-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26692","title":{"rendered":"ICOMOS and Europa Nostra to develop \u2018European Heritage Green Paper\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26693\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/ICOMOS_200620.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/>ICOMOS and Europa Nostra have announced a new collaboration to develop a \u2018European Heritage Green Paper\u2019 on the issue of cultural heritage and climate change, focussing on the role of cultural heritage in achieving the ambitions of the European Green Deal (EGD).<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: ICOMOS website<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>ICOMOS writes:<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Potts, coordinator of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icomos.org\/en\/focus\/climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ICOMOS Climate Change and Heritage Working Group<\/a>\u00a0(CCHWG), leads this project, working closely with a panel of Expert Advisers invited to provide guidance on specific EGD policy initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philosophy of the Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Limiting global warming to 1.5\u00b0C is crucial to Europe and crucial to safeguarding cultural heritage. The European Green Deal brings the 1.5\u00b0C temperature goal within reach, which is why Europe\u2019s cultural heritage needs the Green Deal to succeed. At the same time, there are significant cultural dimensions to every aspect of the European Green Deal, from circular economy to building renovation, \u2018farm to fork\u2019 to biodiversity.\u00a0<strong>The European Green Deal needs cultural heritage to succeed.<\/strong>\u00a0 Yet \u2018art\u2019, \u2018culture\u2019 and \u2018heritage\u2019 \u2013 none of these words currently appear in the EGD. We cannot afford this omission. This project aims to help place Europe\u2019s culture and cultural heritage at the heart of the EGD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology for the Project\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2019, ICOMOS issued a report entitled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icomos.org\/en\/focus\/climate-change\/59522-icomos-releases-future-of-our-pasts-report-to-increase-engagement-of-cultural-heritage-in-climate-action\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018The Future of Our Pasts: Engaging Cultural Heritage in Climate Action\u2019<\/a>, outlining a positive, policy-based vision of the role of cultural heritage in responding to climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The European Heritage Green Paper will correlate the relevant competencies of cultural heritage set out in the ICOMOS report to the topics of the EGD.
