{"id":26592,"date":"2020-06-12T15:43:12","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T14:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26592"},"modified":"2020-06-12T15:44:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T14:44:19","slug":"26592","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26592","title":{"rendered":"National Churches Trust to lead \u2018Treasure Ireland\u2019: Supporting historic places of worship in Northern Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-25120\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/NCT_2019.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"207\" \/>The National Churches Trust will lead the new \u2018Treasure Ireland\u2019 project, which will run over three years and includes a new grants fund offering between \u00a3500 &#8211; \u00a310,000 for repairs and maintenance to help keep churches in good condition and prevent expensive repairs.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The National Churches Trust writes:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Treasure Ireland&#8217; will also offer training and mentoring to help people who look after places of worship. This will include developing skills on writing funding bids, maintenance and interpretation and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The project also aims to increase the number of people visiting churches in Northern Ireland for days out or as part of a holiday. At least 100 churches will be added to the National Churches Trust\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorechurches.org\/\">ExploreChurches website<\/a>\u00a0providing visitors with a one stop digital gateway into discovering the architecture and history of Northern Ireland\u2019s religious heritage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>National Lottery Heritage Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Treasure Ireland\u2019 is funded jointly by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, the Department of Communities and the National Churches Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Murray, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Churches Trust said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c The National Churches Trust is the UK\u2019s church support charity. It is great news that the National Heritage Lottery Fund and the Pilgrim Trust have given their backing and financial support to \u2018Treasure Ireland\u2019 .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project\u00a0 aims to change the dynamic of church heritage in Northern Ireland so that more churches and chapels can be kept in good condition and their architecture and history appreciated by more people. A big thank you to all our partners in Northern Ireland who have taken part in meetings of the NI Places of Worship Forum and who have helped to make \u2018Treasure Ireland\u2019 possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><span lang=\"en-GB\" xml:lang=\"en-GB\">The Treasure Ireland project is due to go live later in 2020 when further details will be available.
