{"id":26332,"date":"2020-05-19T16:48:16","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T15:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26332"},"modified":"2020-05-19T17:58:51","modified_gmt":"2020-05-19T16:58:51","slug":"ihbcs-heritage-from-the-doorstep-is-this-the-right-time-to-seek-permission-for-200-houses-on-prescot-garden-centre-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26332","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s \u2018Heritage from the doorstep\u2019: Is this the right time to seek permission for 200 houses on Prescot garden centre site?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26333\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/StHelens_the_reporter_190520.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" \/>Housing developer Taylor Wimpey is seeking planning permission to replace a garden centre in Prescot with 200 houses, but some local councillors say now is not the right time, the <em>St Helens Reporter <\/em>highlights.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more-->The <em>St Helens Reporter<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>The plans would see 227 homes built on a site in Prescot currently occupied by Whitakers Garden Centre, with the garden centre itself moved to a different location in the town.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>The site was removed from the green belt in 2016 and plans for the new development were originally expected to be put forward at the end of last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>Taylor Wimpey has said the development will bring \u201cmuch-needed new homes, investment and economic benefit\u201d to the area.<\/p>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>But councillors in Prescot are understood to be unhappy with the timing of the application, saying the coronavirus lockdown means the public cannot be consulted properly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>Coun Carl Cashman described the application as \u201ca complete and utter disgrace\u201d and called on Knowsley Council to postpone considering it until the lockdown had been lifted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>He said: \u201cThere cannot be proper public consultation at this time due to the Coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>\u201cMany people who live in the area surrounding Whitakers are elderly with no access to computers so will not be able to participate in any online consultation which I assume the \u2018public consultation\u2019 will be based [on].<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>\u201cMany people need a physical consultation to put the application into visual perspective. Equally, others will want the application explaining verbally. This will not be possible in the current climate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"markup sc-dznXNo hucbsX\">\n<p>\u201cMany people will be worrying about their family and how they will afford their next weekly shop.
