{"id":2615,"date":"2011-04-12T15:11:53","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T15:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=2615"},"modified":"2011-04-12T15:27:18","modified_gmt":"2011-04-12T15:27:18","slug":"locality-launch-5-key-pledges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=2615","title":{"rendered":"Locality launch &#038; 5 key pledges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Locality \u2013 formed last year from the merger of bassac and the Development Trusts Association &#8211; has committed to mobilising a million people over the next three years, and supporting community groups in building enterprising business models, as part of five key pledges it announced at its launch at the House of Lords yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dave Chetwyn, who attended the event on behalf of the IHBC, said: &#8220;Local development trusts and community based enterprises have often used heritage buildings to support their activities, accommodating community facilities and social enterprises. The new organisation, Locality, builds on the work of the DTA and bassac, recognising the challenges facing community and voluntary organisations from public sector spending cuts. IHBC wishes the new organisation every success in supporting local action by local communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Locality\u2019s chief executive\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.civilsociety.co.uk\/profile\/Steve%20Wyler\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Wyler<\/a>, says the five pledges will \u2018build on the inspirational work of Locality\u2019s members and allow the passion and ambition of communities everywhere to flourish\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The pledges include a promise to \u2018tell it as it is\u2019 about cuts to the charity sector, forge better alliances, and mobilise a million people through local campaigns, community organising, and timebanking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wyler also said Locality will help build community capability through enterprising business models: &#8220;I want to encourage asset ownership&#8221;,\u00a0 said Wyler, &#8220;and have community groups which are running businesses with surpluses&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Locality was formed last year from the merger of bassac and the Development Trusts Association.
