{"id":26136,"date":"2020-05-01T16:01:57","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T15:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=26136"},"modified":"2020-05-01T16:01:57","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T15:01:57","slug":"firefighters-tackle-blaze-at-converted-grade-ii-listed-former-mill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=26136","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters tackle blaze at converted Grade II listed former mill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"item__content-block item__content-block--markdown\">\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26137\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/itv_010520.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" \/>Firefighters have tackled a blaze at an historic Grade 11 li8sted former lace mill at Sandiacre, near Nottingham.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>ITV writes:<\/p>\n<p>The fire broke out at Springfield Mill in Bridge Street, Sandiacre, on Tuesday afternoon and crews worked into the night to extinguish flames which continue to burn in the roof.<\/p>\n<p>Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said \u201crapid and effective firefighting\u201d had saved three quarters of the mill \u2013 which is now apartments \u2013 and \u201csignificant numbers of appliances\u201d remained overnight.<\/p>\n<div class=\"item__content-block item__content-block--markdown\">\n<p>Springfield Mill, with its distinctive chimney, is a well known local landmark&#8230;..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"item__content-block item__content-block--markdown\">\n<p>The fire service was called at 4.23pm and eight engines, two aerial ladder platforms, two water carriers and a control room unit went to the scene but residents said flames were still visible at about 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>Marie Talbot, 42, told PA:\u201dThe fire raged through the top floor really quickly, but it soon escalated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe flames were pouring out the top, but I could see the firemen were already trying to tackle it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Walters said it was a shame to see the \u201cgorgeous old building\u201d in this state and Ms Talbot described Springfield Mill as \u201ciconic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Fenwick, 31, added: \u201cThe building is a beautiful piece of Nottingham heritage.
