{"id":25895,"date":"2020-04-07T16:04:01","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=25895"},"modified":"2020-04-07T16:04:01","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:04:01","slug":"philip-long-obe-appointed-nts-chief-executive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=25895","title":{"rendered":"Philip Long OBE appointed NTS Chief Executive"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25896\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/NTS_070420-217x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" \/>Philip Long OBE, currently Director of V&amp;A Dundee, has been appointed Chief Executive of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The NTS writes:<\/p>\n<p>The Trust has announced that Philip Long OBE will succeed Simon Skinner, who retires in July.<\/p>\n<p>Philip Long is V&amp;A Dundee\u2019s founding director, appointed in 2011 to lead the development of all aspects of this new cultural institution from its early planning to successfully opening the museum in September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>He led the museum staff and the founding partnership of the V&amp;A, Dundee City Council, the University of Dundee, Abertay University and Scottish Enterprise in delivering the first design museum in Scotland and the first V&amp;A in the world outside London. Five hundred days from opening, V&amp;A Dundee welcomed its one millionth visitor.<\/p>\n<p>The museum has received international critical recognition\u00a0\u2013 including by\u00a0<em>Time Magazine\u00a0<\/em>as one of the world\u2019s 100 greatest places of 2019 \u2013\u00a0and delivered an economic impact for Scotland of \u00a375 million in the first 12 months after opening.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his leadership of V&amp;A Dundee, Philip was Senior Curator at the National Galleries of Scotland. His academic specialisation was developed during this time, in historic and contemporary Scottish and wider British art and design, on which he has curated many exhibitions and written widely.<\/p>\n<p>Philip Long\u2019s international work has included the curation of Scotland\u2019s presentation at the Venice Biennale (2007), responsibility for the UK presentation at the Milan Design Triennale (2016) and advising museums and government agencies on the development of new cultural and heritage organisations.<\/p>\n<p>He is an Honorary Professor of the University of Dundee, an Honorary Research Fellow of St Andrews University, a member of the British Council\u2019s Arts and Creative Economy Committee, and a Board member of Creative Scotland.
