The exercise is undertaken by the four UK higher education funding bodies and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the assessment will take place during 2021. It<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0was first carried out in 2014, replacing the previous Research Assessment Exercise. The REF is a process of expert review, carried out by expert\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">sub-<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">panels for each of the 34 subject-based units of assessment, under the guidance of four main panels.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We are now seeking to appoint panel members and assessors with specific expertise to finalise the membership of the sub-panels.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">This includes the appointment of both practising researchers and individuals\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">with professional experience of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">making use of, applying or benefitting from academic research<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">M<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">embers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">were\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">first\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">appointed\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">to the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0sub-panel<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a02017<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to undertake the task of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">developing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">assessment\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">criteria.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">In early 2020, following a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">nalysis of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">universities\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0submission intentions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the sub-panels\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">identified<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0where additional appointments are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0now<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0required to ensure each has an appropriate breadth of expertise and volume of panel members necessary for the assessment phase.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The funding bodies are seeking nominations of candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, institution types and geographical region.
