There&#8217;s No Place Like Old Homes: Re-Use and Recycle to Reduce Carbon<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Understanding carbon in the historic environment<\/h3>\n<p>Historic England commissioned Carrig Conservation International to undertake a research project for Heritage Counts entitled \u201cUnderstanding carbon in the historic environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Using actual data from two historic building case studies the consultants developed a life cycle assessment model to estimate the whole life carbon emissions before and after different energy efficient refurbishment scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>The research shows that carbon emissions are reduced by more than 60% by 2050 as a result of the refurbishment and retrofit options.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/historicengland.org.uk\/content\/docs\/research\/understanding-carbon-in-historic-environment\/\">Understanding Carbon in the Historic Environment<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Valuing carbon in pre-1919 residential buildings<\/h3>\n<p>This short paper compares the carbon emissions of pre-1919 residential buildings in England \u2013 and their consequent monetary value under a range of retrofitting scenarios.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/historicengland.org.uk\/content\/docs\/research\/valuing-carbon-pre-1919-residential-buildings\/\">Valuing carbon in pre-1919 residential buildings<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/historicengland.org.uk\/research\/heritage-counts\/2019-carbon-in-built-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019 &#8211;
