Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Theul\u00e9 (Translated by Callum Walker) writes:<\/p>\n

French new towns were established under the 1965 Sch\u00e9ma directeur d\u2019am\u00e9nagement et d\u2019urbanisme de la r\u00e9gion parisienne (Development and Town Planning Master Plan for the Paris Region, SDAURP), and reached their maturity at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s. What can be done about their heritage?<\/p>\n

That issue has been raised in relation to all five new towns in the Ile-de-France region (Cergy-Pontoise, Evry, Marne-la-Vall.e, Melun-S.nart and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) for the past 15 or so years at least\u2026<\/p>\n

Between 1999 and 2005, teachers, researchers, experts, witnesses and stakeholders with an interest in the history of new towns in France contributed to the Programme d\u2019histoire et d\u2019\u00e9valuation des villes nouvelles (New Towns History and Assessment Programme, PHEVN). Driven by the state, this vast programme of study prompted the community of historians, led by Lo.c Vadelorge, to study \u2018new urban centres\u2019, the term used to describe new towns under the SDAURP master plan…<\/p>\n
