In the public sector we can see Conservation Officer roles looming large\u00a0 as ever, with a strong design thread across this round: West Lindsey, with a Townscape Officer role jobshare; Enfield\u2019s Heritage and Conservation Advisor, and Islington\u2019s Conservation & Design Team Manager and Design & Conservation Officer, as well as North Norfolk\u2019s Conservation and Design Officer.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Kettering Borough Council seeks a post of a type with a very specific title \u2013 as a High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ), Project Manager \u2013 but again requiring skills clearly rooted in longstanding conservation project management skills.<\/p>\n

A more specific range of skills \u2013 still representing specific specialisms in the IHBC\u2019s Areas of Competence<\/a> \u2013 are being called for across the third, voluntary and church community sectors.\u00a0 Here demand for conservation skills ranges\u00a0 across planning (Oxford Preservation Trust\u2019s Assistant Heritage and Planning Officer), skills and outreach (Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust\u2019s Skills Training and Outreach Officer), church buildings (Oxford Diocese\u2019s Church Buildings Officer), and project management (English Heritage\u2019s National Project Manager and Senior Manager as well as The Charterhouse charity\u2019s call for a Project & Conservation Manager) all in addition to specialist surveying roles (Landmark Trust\u2019s Regional Building Surveyor).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile private sector and government posts, as ever, reflect the broader spectrum of priorities that inevitably respond to, in turn, client and public priorities.\u00a0 These include employers and roles such as Historic England \u2018s Assistant Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas; James Mackintosh Architects\u2019 Heritage Consultant; Hutton + Rostron search for Specialist Historic Building Surveyor; Locus Consulting\u2019s posts for Principal and Junior Heritage Consultants (two vacancies)<\/a> and the advertisement from the main sponsors of the IHBC\u2019s 2020 School<\/a> \u2013 and IHBC\u2019s HESPR<\/a> community member – the Heritage Collective,<\/a> calling for a Heritage Consultant.<\/p>\n

\u2018Of course any and all roles would benefit from built and historic environment accreditation that aligns with the international conservation\u00a0 standards, notably that provided by the IHBC.\u2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
