Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal was presented with a copy of the book Restoration Rewarded recognising the 40th anniversary of the Awards. This volume covers the history of the Awards with illustrations and details of successful projects from the last four decades.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0BAM Nuttall Partnership Award\u00a0<\/strong>was made to the\u00a0for the restoration of the 1848 Grade II listed station at\u00a0Market Rasen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Great Western Railway Craft Skills Award<\/strong>, recognising the best use of traditional craft skills in the restoration of a building or structure, was awarded to\u00a0Southeastern\u00a0<\/strong>for the restoration of\u00a0Battle\u00a0<\/strong>station in Sussex.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Urban Heritage Award<\/strong>, sponsored by\u00a0the Arch Company<\/strong>, was made to\u00a0Sevenoaks Town Council\u00a0<\/strong>for the dramatic work at\u00a0Bat & Ball\u00a0<\/strong>station that brings the building back into use as part of a project to regenerate the area.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s\u00a0Costain Structures Award\u00a0<\/strong>for the best restored structure, such as a viaduct or tunnel, was made to\u00a0Network Rail\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Taziker Industrial\u00a0<\/strong>for work undertaken in refurbishing the\u00a0South Esk Viaduct\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0Montrose\u00a0<\/strong>on the East Coast main line between Dundee and Aberdeen.<\/p>\n The\u00a0London Underground Operational Enhancement Award\u00a0<\/strong>went to the\u00a0Network Rail (on behalf of the Thameslink Project)\u00a0<\/strong>for the work undertaken at\u00a0London Bridge\u00a0<\/strong>station and the careful reuse of historical elements with the overall creation of a modern station capable of handling the traffic generated in the 21st century.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Supporters Award\u00a0<\/strong>was given to\u00a0Network Rail\u00a0<\/strong>for the meticulous restoration of the\u00a0clock\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0Tunbridge Wells<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Railway Heritage Trust Conservation Award\u00a0<\/strong>for the best restored structure supported by funding from the Trust was won by\u00a0Network Rail Commercial Property\u00a0<\/strong>for work undertaken at\u00a0Mytholmroyd<\/strong>, on the Halifax to Manchester line in West Yorkshire, in restoring the fabric of a redundant station building and preparing it for commercial reuse.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Stagecoach Volunteers Award\u00a0<\/strong>was made to the\u00a0Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust\u00a0<\/strong>who had undertaken the restoration of the turntable at\u00a0Aberdeen Ferryhill\u00a0<\/strong>shed and brought it back into a condition that made it available for use once again.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Abellio Signalling Award\u00a0<\/strong>was made to the\u00a0Swanage Railway\u00a0<\/strong>for their signalling work undertaken at\u00a0Norden\u00a0<\/strong>to provide the integration of signalling between the branch line and the National Network at Worgret Junction, outside Wareham.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Southeastern Commercial Restoration Award\u00a0<\/strong>was made to\u00a0Aberdeenshire Council\u00a0<\/strong>for the detailed work undertaken at\u00a0Ballater\u00a0<\/strong>station following the disastrous fire that had largely destroyed the historic Great North of Scotland Railway station in 2015.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Hendy & Pendle Trust award for the best overall entry\u00a0<\/strong>in this year\u2019s competition went to\u00a0BAM Construction\u00a0<\/strong>for the sympathetic handling of the conversion of the historic coal drops at\u00a0King\u2019s Cross\u00a0<\/strong>for commercial use.<\/p>\n To mark the competition\u2019s 40th anniversary and John Ellis\u2019s retirement as chairman of the National Railway Heritage Awards, a special\u00a040th Anniversary Award\u00a0<\/strong>was made to the project that, in his opinion, marked the single most significant contribution to the preservation of Britain\u2019s railway heritage over the past four decades. This award was made to\u00a0Network Rail, London Borough of Camden, London & Continental Railways, Argent\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0MacAslan Architects\u00a0<\/strong>for the conspicuous and dramatic work undertaken at\u00a0St Pancras\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0King\u2019s Cross\u00a0<\/strong>stations as well as the redevelopment of the once extensive goods facilities to their north.<\/p>\n
