{"id":24756,"date":"2019-12-06T17:46:14","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T17:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=24756"},"modified":"2019-12-06T17:46:14","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T17:46:14","slug":"ihbcs-heritage-from-the-courtroom-doorstep-mansfield-man-who-demolished-19th-century-barn-handed-1500-penalty-plus-victim-surcharge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=24756","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s \u2018Heritage from the (courtroom) doorstep\u2019: Mansfield man who demolished 19th century barn handed \u00a31,500 penalty plus victim surcharge!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A man who demolished a 19th century building \u2018at the heart of the Epperstone Conservation Area\u2019 without seeking planning permission has been ordered to pay \u00a31,500 by Nottingham Magistrates, as on top of a \u00a3660 fine, Lloyd was ordered to pay costs of \u00a3778 and pay a victim surcharge of \u00a3340, little more than \u00a31700 in total.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Chad writes:<\/p>\n<p>William Lloyd, of North Park, Mansfield, was taken to court by Newark and Sherwood District Council, and pleaded guilty when the case was brought before Nottingham Magistrates on Monday, November 18.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that when a council conservation officer had first visited the site at Chapel Farm, Chapel Lane in Epperstone in October 2018, the barn, which dated back to the early 19th century, was still standing but in the following month it had been taken down to the \u2018eaves level\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>However, at a further site visit the following February the officer discovered that the building had been pulled down completely and a new concrete floor had been constructed.<\/p>\n<p>Following this Lloyd was issued with a \u2018temporary stop notice\u2019 which ordered him to stop any further demolition or re-building work on the barn, which is in the Epperstone Conservation Area.<\/p>\n<p>Planning permission was originally granted for renovations and alterations to the farmhouse and barn in July 2018 and although the council had been made aware that the property was in \u2018poor condition\u2019 they were identified as \u2018positive buildings within the Epperstone Conservation Area\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Lloyd was fined \u00a3660 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a3778 and pay a victim surcharge of 340.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Roger Blaney, chairman of the district council\u2019s planning committee, said: \u2018Conservation areas give protected status to help preserve areas of special historical or architectural interest and in this case the law was clearly flouted as the barn was demolished without authority.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This building was at the heart of the Epperstone Conservation Area and it is sadly a loss to the village\u2019s distinctive character and history.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chad.co.uk\/news\/people\/mansfield-man-who-demolished-19th-century-barn-handed-1-500-penalty-1-10121386\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more&#8230;.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man who demolished a 19th century building \u2018at the heart of the Epperstone Conservation Area\u2019 without seeking planning permission has been ordered to pay \u00a31,500 by Nottingham Magistrates, as on top of a \u00a3660 fine, Lloyd was ordered to &hellip;
