The Argus<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n

The wall, which is 1000 years old, collapsed into a resident\u2019s garden and against the Old Coach House.<\/p>\n

The 11th-century castle has been closed to the public for safety reasons and is expected to reopen tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Emergency services remain at the scene this evening following the wall collapse.<\/p>\n

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said its crews are expected to be there for most of the evening.<\/p>\n

A spokesman said: \u2018We continue to work with other organisations at Lewes Castle \u2013 steady progress is being made following the wall collapse.<\/p>\n

\u2018Search dogs are being used along with the latest technology.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s not known why the wall collapsed.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We were mobilised\u2026 \u00a0following reports part of Lewes Castle had fallen onto a commercial building called the Old Coach House.<\/p>\n

\u2018Assistance was requested from Sussex Police, SECamb, HART, Building Control, the Red Cross and specialist teams, including both Kent and West Sussex Urban Search & Rescue\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u2018There are no reports of injuries or casualties.\u2019<\/p>\n
