The Heritage Alliance (THA) is calling for greater recognition and funding to support the historic places and objects that underpin creative and cultural activities, challenging the stereotype of heritage as \u2018a decorative incidental backdrop to contemporary creative work\u2019.<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

A lack of communication, collaboration and \u2018explicit recognition\u2019 of the importance of heritage to the creative industries\u2019 success is limiting the sector\u2019s potential, new research suggests.<\/p>\n
The report from the Heritage Alliance\u00a0<\/a>advocates for greater funding for skills training in heritage professions, and seeks to draw a link between the \u2018undisputed\u2019 economic success of the creative industries and the \u2018essential role\u2019 heritage plays in that success: \u2018we are great custodians who don\u2019t constantly ask for ever increasing subsidies.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Creative projects help heritage staff learn new skills and build capacity for partnerships, with creative practitioners serving as foundation partners for commercial projects and funding bids. Harnessed well, this match could greatly benefit both industries into the future.\u2019<\/p>\n Heritage Alliance Chair Peter Ainsworth said there is a lack of recognition of those industries\u2019 relationship with \u2018places associated with the idea of heritage\u2019, from historic shooting locations for film and television, to music venues and arts centres taking up residence in listed buildings, or video games that draw \u2018inspiration from heritage and history\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018Historic places or objects are not just a decorative incidental backdrop to contemporary creative work; in each case they are integral to the whole enterprise.\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n
