{"id":24031,"date":"2019-09-28T18:01:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-28T17:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=24031"},"modified":"2019-09-27T17:29:58","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T16:29:58","slug":"brunels-other-bridge-in-bristol-to-be-saved-with-62k-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=24031","title":{"rendered":"Brunel&#8217;s &#8216;other bridge&#8217; in Bristol to be &#8216;saved with \u00a362k grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-24032\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/bbc_280919.png\" alt=\"website\" width=\"300\" height=\"352\" \/>A swing bridge that was designed by Brunel is to be \u2018saved\u2019 with a \u00a362,000 grant from Historic England.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The BBC writes:<\/p>\n<p>The wrought iron bridge &#8211; known as Brunel&#8217;s other bridge &#8211; was built in 1849 to take traffic over the lock at Cumberland Basin in Bristol.<\/p>\n<p>Alessandra Perrone, from Historic England, said they were \u2018delighted\u2019 to work with \u2018many dedicated volunteers to save this remarkable bridge\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The structure has been on the Heritage at Risk Register since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers from Avon Industrial Buildings Trust (AIBT) have been working with Historic England to repair the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Geoff Wallis, from AIBT, said: \u2018We are proud of this fascinating but little-known Brunel work.
