{"id":23294,"date":"2019-07-16T16:12:48","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T15:12:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=23294"},"modified":"2019-07-16T16:42:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T15:42:55","slug":"ihbcs-new-guidance-notes-launched-at-nottinghams-2019-school-spotlights-on-retrofitting-and-sources-on-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=23294","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s new Guidance Notes launched at Nottingham\u2019s 2019  School Spotlights: on \u2018Retrofitting\u2019 and on climate change \u2018Sources\u2019&#8230; and now also on School video!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23295\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/AS2019_Spotlight_2.png\" alt=\"website\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/>The IHBC has launched two new <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/guidance_notes\/index.html\">Guidance Notes<\/a>, on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/guidance_notes\/retrofit.html\">Retrofitting of Traditional Buildings<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/guidance_notes\/climateChange.html\">Climate Change and Older Buildings \u2013 Key Sources<\/a><\/em>, as one of the three \u2018IHBC Spotlight\u2019 sessions at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/nottingham2019\/\">2019 Annual School in Nottingham<\/a>.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Guidance Note launches were preceded by a School \u2018Spotlight\u2019 video session on the IHBC\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/index.html\">ToolBox resources<\/a>, introduced by IHBC Policy Committee Chair Roy Lewis, which will be reported in a future NewsBlog.<\/p>\n<p>John Edwards, IHBC Technical Panel Chair and lead author on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/guidance_notes\/retrofit.html\"><em>Retrofitting of Traditional Buildings<\/em><\/a> Note said: \u2018Buildings are and will continue to be under pressure to be made more energy efficient and whilst this is sensible, experience to date suggests that risks of unintended consequences are common.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This guidance intends to provide an outline on the most appropriate approach, which is a holistic one. It also provides comment on competencies and new publications by the British Standards Institution (BSI) on retrofit.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This guidance includes the processes\u00a0that individuals need to\u00a0adopt when\u00a0making\u00a0buildings more energy efficient.\u00a0 That doesn&#8217;t\u00a0just mean\u00a0retrofit\u00a0itself, but also other considerations that include everything from the very technical issues involved in surveying buildings in the first place to heritage values and heritage impact assessments.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Most importantly it emphasises the need to have professionally qualified individuals participating in this process.\u2019<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>John Preston, STBA joint Heritage Chair and lead author on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/guidance_notes\/climateChange.html\"><em>Climate Change and Older Buildings \u2013 Key Sources<\/em><\/a> Note said: \u2018This Note on \u2018<em>Key Sources<\/em>\u2019 provides web-based links to help IHBC members with these issues.
