{"id":23260,"date":"2019-07-12T17:57:58","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T16:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=23260"},"modified":"2019-07-14T18:07:29","modified_gmt":"2019-07-14T17:07:29","slug":"ihbcs-2019-nottingham-annual-school-opens-and-closes-as-records-break-and-spotlights-beam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=23260","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s 2019 Nottingham Annual School opens and closes, as records break and spotlights beam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23261\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/AS2019_Day_School_general_people_050719_300.png\" alt=\"people\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>Early feedback indicates that as well as being one of the IHBC\u2019s most populous Schools &#8211; thanks not least to the IHBC\u2019s new forward planning strategies and the skills-focussed hosting by the IHBC\u2019s East Midlands Branch \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/nottingham2019\/\">IHBC\u2019s 2019 Nottingham School<\/a> will be remembered for its combination of authoritative speakers, urban experiences and accessible learning, including the IHBC\u2019s Spotlights.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18541 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IHBC_CPD_AOC_March2018-e1522162208954.png\" alt=\"logo\" width=\"145\" height=\"87\" \/>IHBC President and Chair David McDonald said: \u2018The success of this year\u2019s Annual School has also reminded me of the value of high quality CPD tailored to the specific needs of the full spectrum of our interdisciplinary membership, IHBC accredited and otherwise.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018As well as the volunteers and staff, we would also like to thank especially all the speakers.\u00a0 They generously volunteer their time in ways that would otherwise make these superb annual events \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/learning\/page38\/index.html\">IHBC\u2019s Annual Schools<\/a> &#8211; unaffordable to the majority of the heritage community.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As it is we can manage the School to generate funds that allow us to offer extensive awards, support and bursaries \u2013 both to IHBC members as well as to other practitioners, and at all stages of their careers.\u00a0 This strategy ensures we offer an event that is both worthy of the IHBC\u2019s brand and charitable objects, and of the time, funds and efforts both organisers and delegates put into it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Justin Webber, Chair of the Annual School\u2019s Branch Organising Committee, said: \u2018The East Midlands Branch would like to thank everyone who attended the sold-out event this year.\u00a0 We hope all those who made it enjoyed it as much as we did. The success of the event reflected the efforts of a wide range of people who contributed their time and we are particularly grateful to our local volunteers and the team from the national office.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Day School was a particular highlight and the speakers delivered on a range of talks that were both engaging and packed with useful learning points.\u2019<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23262\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23262\" class=\"wp-image-23262 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/AS2019_S3_Andre_Mangion_300.png\" alt=\"people\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leicester City Centre: Andre Mangion<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u2018In sunshine and rain, the tours provided a positive snapshot of heritage work and the historic landscape of the region and we hope delegates have the opportunity to come back and explore more in the future. We send our best wishes to the South East Branch in their ongoing planning for what will no doubt be an excellent<a href=\"http:\/\/brighton2020.ihbc.org.uk\/\"> Brighton School<\/a> in 2020.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Alice Ullathorne, Heritage Strategy Officer at Nottingham City Council, and co-organiser and co-chair on the Day School, said \u2018Nottingham City Council were so pleased to welcome the national IHBC conference to Nottingham. We hope all delegates enjoyed their experience of the city and came away with a wealth of information about how to assess risk, manage threat and deal with incidents when the worst happens.
