However I am especially pleased with the firm foundations we have laid so successfully for the next stage of modernising IHBC\u2019s governance.\u00a0 David McDonald\u2019s election offers critical continuity at a time of huge change, while Lone offers essential \u2018new blood\u2019 at the IHBC\u2019s top table.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC\u2019s new Chair and \u2013 until September \u2013 President, David McDonald, said: \u2018It has been a great time in Nottingham and I\u2019d like to offer a special thanks to all outgoing officers, especially James and Kathy\u2019, as well as departing staff.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And\u00a0 I\u2019m delighted \u2013 and excited \u2013 to have the opportunity to lead IHBC at this critical juncture in its evolution.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Of course my main role is to build on current work and progress, such as the governance proposals and our support for Branches, members and practitioners around skills and accreditation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018However I am determined also to advance new areas too, including securing accessible top quality local CPD support for specialists, and really lifting our profile across practice, political and client bodies.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Indeed, in response to feedback from our Governance consultations, I will give special priority to the need to raise the public profile of the Institute.\u00a0 By chance, I have already taken the opportunity at the Annual School to be interviewed by BBC Radio Nottingham.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The success of this year&#8217;s Annual School has also reminded me of the value of high quality CPD tailored to the specific needs of the full spectrum of our interdisciplinary membership, IHBC accredited and otherwise.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Lone le Vay, IHBC\u2019s Vice Chair said: \u2018I want to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has encouraged and\u00a0 supported my nomination.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For those who do not know me I am an architect and currently Treasurer and Secretary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/branches\/s_east\/index.html\">South East Branch<\/a>, while I also convene the IHBC\u2019s Legal Panel. I have worked for many years in local authorities providing conservation and design advice, most recently managing an historic environment team, and I am also currently a Design Council Built Environment Expert (BEE).\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I have been actively involved with the Branch working group developing the programme for next year\u2019s annual school &#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/brighton2020.ihbc.org.uk\/\">2020 Brighton School<\/a>, on \u2018Old towns \u2013 New futures\u2019, which we will host in June next year.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I do look forward to taking on my new role, not least to extending the work of my predecessor, Kathy, especially that wider engagement within the Institute \u2013 linked to the \u2018IHBC+\u2019 programme &#8211; and across the historic and built environment sector as a whole.\u00a0 I also look forward to working with colleagues on advancing the new governance proposals for the Institute, and making sure they work as intended for both current and future members.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018This year also saw the successful introduction of a new online <a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=22837\">proxy voting system<\/a>.
